Somebody asked me the other day who they should use to tune their 3V. I could only think of two: Brenspeed, with whom I'd only had good results with back in my 3V days, and a guy named Lito I know nothing about save for his apparent good reputation on this forum. Are there any others still active?

Both of these tuners are SCT-centric as well. It seems SCT is in decline. Is it time for 3V tuning to become more of a DIY thing. If so, what software would be required? What reference materials are available? Or are there a plethora of 3V tuners I am just unaware of. Pesonally I like the DIY thing. That's the route I'm going with regarding Coyote tuning.

I would avoid Brenspeed like the plague. Very, very, poor customer service and support. Many here will agree with me.
    Go with Lito.

I just purchased HP Tuners software for my Pontiac and bought the extra credits to hook up my 3V. I haven't downloaded the files yet but after doing some pre purchase research I thought this was the best avenue for me to take.

I think Lund would still tune a 3V and Dan Carlson at Realspeed Auto in Bohemia LI would as well.

I had a tune written by a local shop after they installed my cams etc.. car runs great, never had an issue with it, even passes yearly inspection. I’d just make some phone calls to well reviewed shops in your area and see what they can offer or referrals to someone who can help.

I’d like to get into it a little myself. Almost pulled the trigger on the pro racer software the other day but still gun shy as I haven’t found much in the way of guidance online. I don’t need my hand held, just need to know enough to be dangerous lol.

Yeah it seems the people with that software don't want to share much.

Steeda also makes a solid tune using SCT for the 3V- I've never had an issue w/a Steeda tune and would recommend them for consideration.

SCT has a private forum, supposed to get access when purchasing the PRP software. I never got the access. I lurk the hp tuners forum for tips. That said, the PRP software gives you a bunch of value files. I am running the 93 octane value file. I really needed the transmission/gear ratio stuff to be straightened out w/magnum xl, could not have done it without PRP.

These fly-by-wire cars are not happy if thats not correct as the load calculations are off. You definitely need to know how to tune a basic engine setup. The fly-by-wire adds another level of difficulty. If you never tuned before, these cars are not easy to figure out.

So you don't get an annotated disassembly of the ROM? And the processor; what is it? Is it 16 bit, 32 bit, 64 bit?

You have to start with your factory tune, provided by SCT, as you dont read your pcm. (I wish it did). The software gives you access to just about everything, and most of it doesnt need to be messed with. Its a full GUI, runs on windows.
And you need to remember which file you flashed, which file that is on the pc. Any change needed you edit the saved file, and load to x4, than flash it. With 10 tunes on the x4, you can get lost quick.

So you can tune the various 3V PCM iterations as well as the Coyote ones using HP Tuners?

I actually made the switch from Brenspeed to JDM engineering over 4 years ago.. Despite multiple tune revisions, Brenspeed could never get my gear ratio back to stock 3:55 from the previous 4:10 setup, then had the damn nerve to point the finger at SCT rather than take ownership by writing the proper tune revision. I also know through personal experience about how poor their customer support and service is especially when you end up having to deal with Doug who IMHO is a total dick head who knows absolutely nothing when it comes to providing customer support/service. Needless to say, JDM engineering got my tune dialed in right on the first time and Jim III from JDM also takes the time to answer all tune related/technical questions and does so in a very professional and courteous manner by treating folks as valued customers.

That being said, I've been very pleased with JDM's tunes along with their customer service department and would highly recommend them..

I just happen to be one of the many who definitely agree with you when it comes to Brenspeed :waytogo:
