Nice! Any idea what timing and AFR JJ settled on?
af was 12.5 then leaned a bit above 6000rpms to 12.8
timing at 38degrees and at 6000 pulled back to 36degrees
i'm sure with 10 more pulls we could have gained more. every pull we found power but time only permits a few pulls but i'm happy.
just wish we could have done one with all the tricks. i know it would have rolled 450+

anybody ever had leaks after switching to synthetics or different brand oils. i really don't want to pull the trans just to see if the rear main is leaking and find out there's nothing wrong. my old 5.0 leaked like crazy with synthetic oil but was fine with dinosaur oil. just wondering if for some reason thats whats going on. i didn't notice any leaks until i switched oils just before the dyno runs but then i really hadn't rev'd it past 6k either. wonder how thick we can go with oil before it causes an issue in these engines 5w30 10w40 15w40
i'm running 5w20 mobile1 now

Since I built my motor I have not used syn. started out with that break in oil then moved to 10/30 dino .....I know a few people running 15/40 ( diesel oil ) and swear by it ......If I'm not mistaken gt500's use something like 15/50 oil . Me and the others running diesel oil also still use the vct ( limiters ) so with that being said with you having yours locked out you should be able to go even thicker .

I switched from 5w20 to 5w30 Mobil 1, when I replaced the cams and installed the cam phaser limiters. I read an article awhile back that to thick of an oil could cause the pin on the cam phasers to shear off, IIR it was a JDM article in a mag.

prelim dyno results:

421rwhp @ 7100 rpms

388ft.lbs. @ 5000rpms (made over 300ft.lbs. from 3000rpms -up)

no gimmicks, all accessories (no short belt) + full exhaust and no iced intake etc.
my MAF was getting near max so we opted not to uncork it and go for something bigger. no doubt we could have hit 450hp if we pulled out a couple tricks but this was really just to get it tuned and see how it performed at WOT
i'm pretty happy and knowing there's more in it makes me even happier. I changed the oil yesterday to synthetic and now my front seal is leaking so i'll replace it and switch back to conventional oil for a bit longer. but all is well.
now just nee to get to the track and datalog some stuff to really dial it in.
i'll post the dyno sheet when JJ sends it over tonight.

The combination is strong and has a ton more in it. Pulls like a freight train. :thumb:

You're awesome JJ !!:thumb:

wonder if anybody makes the 5w50 in conventional oil

the front seal is leaking and i know what happened. the small spring in the seal came loose and was just dangling there so it didn't hold pressure on the crank. easily fixable. the rear leak i believe is the oil pan gasket. it only leaks when jacked up in the front.
i'll take care of those problems and try to make the track day for NVMC next week. maybe if JJ is free he can go and help me get some little things worked out. heck i might drop the exhaust and lose the belt for one pass just for kicks. i've got to figure out how to lose some weight from the car as well. i added about 150lbs. doing this swap. it would be nice to drop about 75lbs. from someplace (other than the normal stuff seats exhaust etc.) maybe remove the airbags, radio, evap system and bumper crash bars....or just fire up the plasma cutter and go to work:beerdrink:

I wounder what a stock bore, stock heads, with custom intake would put down to the wheels?

Just a random question that is a bit off topic, but did you run race brakes when you hit the 11.89? Im looking at the pic of your car and the front rims are really tucked... figure maybe race brakes

He had shorter a-arms made, that's why they sit in further than stock.

wow that looks really good, I can't wait to get mine tucked in.

do you know what gear it has? My car sits like that in the back to which I love for the look but hes doesn't bounce around like mine :(

IIRC he had a 4.56 in for that pass (NMRA Bradenton, few years ago) and I think it's a 4.90 now but my memory is second guessing itself. Also I think he had his homemade ladder bars on the rear on that pass too.

He had 4.30's in it when he broke into the 11's. His front suspension, an AJE K-member and A-arms, with Strange Engineering Fox body struts modified to fit an S197, Granatelli coil overs with 175# springs. The tranny is a 5R55S which will not react the same as a stick car.

yeah i've still gotthe 4.30's in it now. the rear springs were cut 1\2 coil and i was using my link bars but removed them....they are going back on after today.
AJE shortened my a-arms 2" but they didn't really need that much. 1" would have been fine. stock brakes still on the car. i now have 250# springs but was using the 175# springs on the 11.89 pass. i will say they were probably too light even then.
went to the NVMC track day today.
full weight:stock seats spare tire in etc.
-11.45 @119
-11.44 @ 119
-11.37 @ 120
removed pass seat, spare tire, left headlight and used p\s delete belt
- stalled to 3000rpms then blew the tires off and aborted the run
-then pulled straight back into the lanes and went:
11.26 @121 on a hot lap pass. IAT was 126 degrees!:wow: + hit rev limiter in 2-3 shift- launched at 2000rpms.
oh and ambient air=75degrees today
it should have run 11 teens maybe high 11.o on that run.
we still have a lot of tuning but it's really coming around quick.
next i want to drop the exhaust and see what it does uncapped.
heck i never even checked the air pressure in the tires (lost my gauge)
thanks JJ !!!!

here's some runs with my old combo.

http://s248.photobucket.com/albums/gg161/spyder7724/?action=view&current=cecilvideo.flv

these were at cecil county the week after i ran 11.89
i went 11.91 there but most every run that day was 12.03 or quicker
the car really didn't do much off the line. i worked for a long time trying to get it to transfer or just do something but never could.

Those are some awesome times Ron!! That car is definitely capable of high 10's with a few minor enhancements.
