Okay guys my clutch finally start crapping out on me so I went ahead and bought a Spec stage 3+ and a billet steel flywheel from AM.

I am trying to install this in my garage and have been searching everywhere for a good write up can some one lend a hand or several for that matter.

I know on AM's sight they have a write up for this clutch but the engine is out of the car which makes things a million times easier and seeing that do not have that benfit and I limited to the 2 feet I have between the garage floor and my car I need help.

So far I removed the necessary turbo piping and will be going back out to the garage momentarly to remove the drive shaft then I have to figgure the best way to ease the tranny down and back so I have room to work.

I've only found two ways to get a 3650 out. Clock it so the usless tabs on the bellhousing don't hit the tunnel, or lower the k member and tilt the motor with a jack so the tabs clear the tunnel.

Good luck.

If its not too late, I would return the Spec Stage 3 clutch and buy the Exedy Mach 500 for the same price. Trust me, it will be worth your time.

I am very pleased with my choice I think the TQ rating is outstanding and it will hold up to whatever I throw at it in the future. Excedy didn't even come close in rating compared to the Spec Stage 3+,Torque Rating: 850 ft./lbs. And I have heard great things about the clutch now back to the install.

I think by clocking he means to "twist" the tranny so the tabs will have room to come out without catching on the tunnel. Kinda hard to do if you are working by yourself and on the ground.

In case you haven't ordered them yet I would recommend doing a new hydraulic slave and steel line while you have it out.

I unfrotunatly opted out of it seeing that is cost almost as much as the clutch and only time will tell if I actually need it. For $360 I will take the chance that is steep.

Good luck to you. I have a Spec 3+ and it's a love/hate relationship. I love that there is NO SLIP whatsoever. BUT, that thing SUCKS for daily driving. Also, I concur on the new slave as well. I understand the costs, but stupid me tried to save a buck and not get it. Now, my slave makes a nasty noise every time I take off. Just my .02. Again, good luck and you'll love the clutch when you get on it!!! :)

Don't take a chance with the slave cylinder. It's $156.xx through tousley ford and it really should be changed with every clutch change in our cars. I'm still on the stock clutch line for now and I will be changing mine the next time I have to do the clutch.

Truth spoken here. I had it replaced when I went to a Ram clutch (POS) and then skipped out when I put the Spec in. Stupid me.

I Just had BBR hook me up with an Exedy mach 400 in my car about 1500 miles ago...loving it so far. I would return the Spec and go Exedy, I just read a thread on here about alot of problems people are having with Spec clutches (for some reason their s197 clutches are hit or miss).
Do yourself a favor....do a search on here for clutches, you will see there are really only two choices. Exedy or Mcleod

you will be 100% fine with a spec 3+.

a clutch swap is not a easy task doing it by your self.

its not going to just slide out. i had to loosen up the motor and jack up the front of it to tilt it back for clearance.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

The other method involves lowering the k member and jacking the motor from the front to tilt the tranny rearward. Disregard the redneck k member "just in case" supports.

First of all I did my research and it led me to SPEC not RAM, McCloud or Ecedy, I am sticking with my Spec Styage 3+
and Steel flywheel researched the shit out of them too and the pros and cons of both.

I am glad someone posted pics I will hopefully get the trans loosened up tonight. Although the slave kit I found from AM was $360 I am thinking what you found for $158 is not the same thing by any means AM doesn't fuck people by reamping up cost.

It's only a little less at CJ pony parts-$330

Hear is a comment from someone who bought this from AM.
Hey guys, i just bought a RAM clutch, i brought it to ford, had it installed, but my car wasnt shifting correctly and i couldnt find the gears.. this was because my slave wasnt strong enough to operate the clutch. i quickly bought this slave because i thought, because i own a RAM clutch, i might as well stray from the brand to avoid problems, boy was i wrong. this clutch comes in 12 -13 different pieces. it is adjustable, but not self adjusting. you have to install it, drive the car, see if its correctly adjusted, if not, take it out and put a shim or two in order to re-adjust the slave. it is a headache. im not trying to badmouth RAM or american muscle, i love my ram clutch, i would recommend that anyone. just not this slave. thanks!

I think I will head your warnings an get it.

Question can I install the new clutch and flywheel and then do this I rather get that done while I am waiting on this to be shipped to me?

The ones you were looking at are not the OEM one. From what I've read people have had the best success putting in a new OEM one rather than an aftermarket one.

I tried an aftermarket slave (McLeod adjustable) - it was a leaky POS. Went back to a new OEM slave with a McLeod RXT twin disk. Works great.

You're right, y'all are talking about two different slaves. The one everyone else is referring to is the stock one, not the one from RAM. I bought the one from RAM and bolted it up. Got to looking at it and the adjustment process and decided that I would rather stick with the stock one. Still have the RAM slave sitting in a box.

As far as clutches go, the Spec 3+ is the only one from Spec that has had pretty reliable results in the S197 platform. Almost everyone that went with the 2+ regretted it and pulled it, myself included. Good luck with the swap.

Thanks for clearing that up I wish that I would have researched the slave a little more lethal performance has and OEM one and advance has an aftermarket that is concentric like OEM.

Would this work if so I will be getting it today.

Okay after looking again I found one on ROCK Auto for only $110 and $125 Shipped 2 day business express think I might go that route or bite the $25 and go to advance kind of up in the air.

That looks like the exact slave cylinder that came with my Exedy clutch...so that looks like a winner. also, cant go wrong with rockauto.com (real fast shipping)...if you are trying to save a couple bucks
