New TCI 3000 stall converter, picked up some time!

I installed a TCI 3000 stall. My personal best was 13.77, and last night I ran a 13.16 - yes, really. No other changes to the car, not even the tune.
I picked up over 6/10ths!
My 60 ft was 2.1 before and last night were 1.81
Now for the disclaimer... weather was perfect with the air temp in the upper 50's. My father who runs a consistent 12.1 was running 11.9 from the cooler weather...so I'm guessing up to 2/10s of the that time may simply been conditions.
Either way near a half a second improvement was well worth the cost.
My car has hot rod cams, headers, airaid cai and a tune. I was running a drag radial on the back with my 20 inch rims.
If I got some big and littles and some gear I imagine I could be in the 12's pretty consistently.

Thanks! I need some gear and less rotating mass....maybe a driveshaft would be worth it??

That's about normal, a converter is usually good for about 5 to 6 tenths. Keep up the good work!!

Had I known a converter was good for a 1/2 second I would have put it on a long time ago! Cheap cheap time improvement.

Why does a TC drop so much time and how much does it cost install one on average?

Aftermarket converters have higher stall, flash, rpm which allows the car to launch harder and get into its power band much quicker. This is why a car will usually pick up around 5 tenths from just a converter swap. The transmission has to be pulled to install the converter so it isn't a cheap deal. A good converter, get a Circle D or PI not anything from TCI, will run about $1000 and it's usually $500-800 to install, depending on the shop.

I'm thinking it may be better for me to get a TC than gears. I don't think gears will get me to mid 11's, but a TC might.

Whoa.. I did not know this. I thought it was something that can be done in a garage with hand tools. Might as well save up for a blower.

Another company to consider is PTC. They are fairly reasonable in pricing and have been around for awhile.

Just curious, have you had issues with a TCI?

I and several other members here have had bad dealings with TCI. I wouldn't recommend them for a converter and they fudge all their numbers with their trans, as to how much power they will hold, so don't count on one of their trans holding up.

I ran a 4800 rpm stall converter in my supercharged '07 GT. Only cost $250 for install at a Ford Dealership. Converter I bought was under $600. Best bang-for-the-buck after tunes and forced induction, IMHO. Dropped my short times by 3 tenths without tuning, and even more with tuning for lock-up points.

Airaid CAI, headers with O/R H pipe and a tune. I was also running in bad air.

Ok gotcha I was Alittle confused because I've run a 13.81 with 80 degree heat. The only mod I have is axel backs.

Where did you find a TCI 3K for $260?
