Which is the easiest pulling the motor and trans connected together or just the engine by itself? Getting ready to swap out the motor and just want to get it done the easiest way possible. I will be doing a new flywheel, and clutch as well if that matters.

It's fairly easy. Mine didn't want to separate from the transmission but it just took holding my tongue right.

Haha. Yeah after a 130K miles I imagine some stuff will not just break loose real easy but a new can of deep creep and I am hoping it will go smoothly.

If you have access to a 2 post lift (maybe a buddy with a shop or hobby shop) you can drop the motor and trans out the bottom in one piece, still connected to the k-member, in about 1.5 hours. Once its on the table, you can do everything you need to with no car in the way... than about another 1.5 hours to put it back in.

I dropped a motor and trans, swapped heads, cams, VCT lockouts, clutch, installed LT's and slammed it back in the car, all in about 8 hours. With the exception of a few wires, fuel line, AC pump, etc, there was almost no bending over the fenders to work on anything. Almost all the work was done from under the car.

You couldn't pay me to do the work that needs to be done to pull it out the top. If you are going to... leave the trans where it is.

I swapped a motor on an 05 2 summers ago. Came out the top and left the trans in place. No drama involved but did take a while and the trans was stuck good. Deep creep, tapping easy with a hammer, etc and it finally let go. Just make double sure you didn't miss a bolt.

I heard out the bottom with the K member is much easier if you have a lift but have never done it this way personally. Good luck

I had access to a lift so I dropped the motor/k-member with the tranny on it. Was quick and painless.

Only time I pull the trans with it is if I need the trans out. It makes more mess with the trans fluid coming from the tail housing on the trans. I usually just pull the motor with the headers attatched.

I should be able to pull the motor with only taking the trans loose from the bell housing or will I have to loosen it from the driveshaft to move it back enough to separate it.

Bell housing bolts and unbolt the convertor. Then use a screw driver and push the convertor back towards the trans a bit to seperate it from the flex plate. That way the convertor does not try to come out with the motor.

Mine is a manual but yeah on all the auto trans cars I have ever pulled the motor on I always had to push the converter back into the trans. Figure I may as well do the clutch while I am there. I picked up a LuK brand clutch kit. It comes with a nice valeo friction disc and what looks like a oem manufacturer throw out bearing. Also anybody ever ordered from new takeout? I am still waiting on an email or shipping notification for the flywheel I bought.
