The new brakes look good. I was thinking of Billy when I read they were from Strange. He's probable already called to order them.....Lol

If you haven't done so yet, I would suggest putting a rollbar in this beast, it's getting serious. I admire your patience and determination with this. I'm not sure I could take enough blood pressure meds to get through what your going through.

There's a 6 point Wolfe Race Craft bar in it now, a full 8.50 cage is one of the next things on my list after I get it back together again. No sense going any faster if you just get kicked off the track for not having enough cage! Patience is easy when you have no other choice! JK, it still sucks lol

Hell yea! I know who I'm calling tomorrow. I need a set of those brackets. The one I made for the dual calliper set up made to much of a growling sound for me. I can get my wheels tucked back in 3/4 now. Did the kit retain the anti grown braces that come from the factory?

I figured you would like them! Not sure what you mean by anti grown braces, but this kit did not retain anything OEM on the axle other than the housing.

Thanks, for sure! I saw a car with these brakes at the Spring Break Shootout last month and just had to have them, I ordered them that Monday.

Oh and needless to say, I didn't get my motor back today! Now we're waiting on the balance guy, it will be a couple more days...surprise surprise lol!

Was to busy to call me today. I thought it was funny though that if you Google that part number, this is the only page that comes up, I guess you have your own Google 1st... Haha

Yes, I called several places and none of them knew what I was talking about, even when I called Strange Directly the sales guy wasn't aware this kit exists yet, I guess it is super new. I told him I saw it on some cars at the NMRA race in Bradenton and he said those were probably some of the test cars..

^^That's it.

After nearly 3 freakin' months I FINALLY FINALLY got my motor back late yesterday! Holy shit I almost forgot what it looks like!

Very sexy!

I managed to get the first stressful task completed successfully, I tapped the water pump outlet to 1/2" NPT so I can convert it to a -8an line to connect to the crossover tube directly without ghetto hose clamps, etc.

Checked the main clearances, all came in at .0020 - .0021, that works for me.

Clevite Bearing Guard installed, ready for the crank.

Crank is now in its new home

End play came in just under .007, still lookin' good

Comparison b/w Manley's Pro I-Beam rods and H-Beam. Next I will match the pistons and rods by weight, hang them, measure the rod bearing clearances and start filing some rings.

Here we go again, hopefully the third time is the charm~

Looking awesome Kyle! Best of luck with final assembly my friend.

Thanks Scott

Now that's some good looking parts into your sexy block....

Lol, I agree!

I'll be watching closely on how you set the timing.

Okay sounds good,

I made some progress today, matched up all the pistons and hung them on the rods, got all the rings filed to .025 gap on both the top and second rings, .015 on the oil control. Took all the rod bearing measurements, they all came in at .0025 to .0026. PTB measurements .0035, etc. I dropped a couple piston and rod assemblies into the block and ran into a snag, the side clearances are too tight, they all came in at .011 - .012, spec calls for .015 min to .025 max, so back to the machine shop Monday morning, damn! Not much more I can do until then, I wanted to at get most of the engine assembled this weekend, oh well that's not gonna happen now. At least I got all the tedious measuring work out of the way, after I get the rods milled a bit I should be able to just assemble everything without having to take a million measurements. Here's a few more pics

Pistons hung and ready to go

Here's a comparison b/w ARP 2000 3/8" bolts vs. 7/16" rod bolts.

New 38.5mm Manley Extreme Duty Exhaust Valves Installed. I took the collapsed lash adjuster measurement on all new valves also, everything was within spec .020 - .028.

Looks like I'll be burning the midnight oil after work this week to get the motor put back together, if all goes well maybe I can drop it back into my car next weekend, I'm not holding my breath on that though!

Good catch on the rod side clearance. Mine are pretty loose at .028 but I run 10w40 in mine. My original builder set them up that way.

The H-Beam rods call for less side clearance for some reason, .011 - .012 for those would be fine but the I-Beams call for a little more. I'm going to tr to keep it to a minimum though maybe around .016 to help prevent crankshaft flexing while under boost, etc. I run 5w-40 in mine after break-in.

Back to your rear brakes, how did you decide what pad to use, hard, medium, or soft metallic? I have the soft metallic and they are a little noisy after they heat up?

Also if you still have a wheel off, can you measure from the back of your rotor to the front that meets the wheel.

I discussed which pads to get with them on the phone, based on my car trapping in the 140's in the 1/4 they suggested the medium pads for the back, they said always go with soft for the front though.

I don't have any wheels off at the moment, next time I do I'll measure and let you know. The rear rotors appear to be the same as the fronts.

Dropped the rods off at my machine shop yesterday morning to have them clearanced on the sides, also had them check the pin clearances since they felt tight and I couldn't get reliable measurements on them, good thing I did since they were all too tight at .0006, minimum spec is .0008 - .015. Both items were taken care of and I got them back the same day, had to rehang everything again, of course.

Decided to tape the decks since I had to use the el-cheapo band type ring compressor, I don't have a good one for .030 over bore and apparently nobody makes them either. Anyway the tape prevented the compressor from scratching the new deck surfaces.

Short block is done! Side clearances are all at .017 now, right where I wanted them, pins at .001.

Need to make sure there's at least .100 thread length on the studs. All studs set at 3 turns out.

On to the heads next, then degreeing the cams, etc. Progress should be a little quicker going forward, hopefully.
