My 71 Z/28 has a Procharged 355 in it that makes 560whp. With the stock forged crank, rods and Forged TRW pistions, I had 4 years of drag racing on the engine without fail. I decided back in 97 that I wanted to race in the Silver State Challenge. Even though the engine was plenty stout for drag racing, I wasn't confident the engine would not survive an endurance race. I rebuilt the engine with a Callies Ultra Billet crank, Callies rods, Aries pistons, and installed Jesel shaft rockers on the AFR heads. I was advised to use the stock block with billet main caps. During testing, I was holding 7,000 RPM's in high gear for about 15 minutes. I broke the main webbing out of the block and destroyed the engine. This engine would have lasted forever as a drag motor. Needless to say, I never got to race in the event. Now the engine makes 630whp and has a Dart block. Maybe I should haul it to the Mile. Germeezy, up for a road trip.
