Seems there are several scattered bits of info on this, and since I'm about to tackle it, I thought I'd fire up a new thread to HOPEFULLY bring to light ACCURATE information on who has had this problem and what did/didn't fix the issue.

1st, I already have an MGW shifter. I am making 500ish rwhp (for now:beerdrink:)

I will be trying the synchro TSB first. If that doesn't help much I believe a torque limiter is next, and/or slave cylinder?

Who has had this problem and have you solved it?

If so, how?

possible diagnosis: syncros are fucked, get the torque limiters, replace motor mounts if you haven't already, or get the throw-out bearing from RAM, which I believe is one of the main companies, if not the only (I could be wrong) that makes them.

Are you absolutely sure this will be THE definitive thread? What happens if someone makes a more definitive thread in the future? Will that supersede this one? Or will it be the definitive - part 2? After you have a half dozen people tell you to install a K member brace with torque limiters to solve your 1~2 shift at 6500rpm problem (even though your definitive thread didn't actually tell what the problem was) will this still be the definitive thread? Or will it then just be the "I have the same problem as everyone else but need reassurance" thread?

The CHE torque limiters do help. I have some new motor mounts to add too. I understand the combination of brace, torque limiter, mounts and billet shifter work it out.

Huge rep to HDMINIUM he can shift!

Being able to get a tr3650 car down the track with 18lbs of boost in 10.37x is fucking awesome. Thats much the same as DonW with a 5r55:thumb::beer: and 2/10ths off the fastest 281 of Ken3030 with a 4r70

I suggest he donates to the definitive thread as he must have the answers!

So, are you asking in politeness or sarcasm??

I was thinking this should be the "Definitive Thread Thread"................

Definitive threads are fun. I was thinking of starting one on seat cushions.

I have had problems off and on. Moving to a tubular k-member with the fixed mounts helped, and switching out the Hurst shifter to an MGW improved things as well. However, I'm thinking that either the che k-member brace or the bmr a-member brace might be worth trying, given the relative low cost and installation ease...

+1 I have the same problem...N/A Anything in that 6300-6500 range just doesnt want to go in to gear with a quick shift. I understand the reasoning behind it...just would like a "definitive" soloution :beerdrink:

Yes the s197 is the biggest piece of garbage when it comes to shifting !!!!!!!

On a scale from 0 to 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
(0 being poor ) I give it a solid .5.

this is the only thing I that I really hate about my car.

For those having the problem, what clutch and flywheel combination are you using?

if the issue is hard to get the tranny into gear at high load, its a well known issue due to the remote mounted shifter

solution 99% of the time is k-member brace w/ tq limiters and prothane motor mounts

/thread

Me too

Do you guys find that shifting is more difficult in 2nd and 3rd and almost no problem in the remaining gears?

I found the biggest improvement was when I put a solid aluminum bronze bushing in the front hole that mounts to the shifter to the trans. I also have a BMR Tubular K-member with poly bushings and a Tri-Ax shifter.

I had motor mounts and torque limters, still couldn't hit secind at high RPM. I believe a lot of the issue has to do with what clutch/flywheel you're running.

pardon my ignorance, but if i dont ask then i wont know.

ive seen the term "torque limiters" several times in this thread. what are they and to what do they pertain...ive gathered theyre something to do with stablizing the motor/tranny?
