What do you guys, or your tuners, have your cooling fan temps set at in your tune for low and high fan settings?

I think part of my gas mileage problem may be that i have the fans set at 170 for low and 180 fir high and my car barely reaches 180 degree coolant temp unless its a scorching hot day. Im thinking the car may be staying in open loop all the time and never going into closed loop because it isnt warming up.

So what are your fans set to, and on a typical day, what do you see for coolant temps. Also please state your cooling mods.

I have a Fluidyne radiator with a Meziere electric water pump. Low speed set to 170 and high speed set to 180

This may be interesting to keep an eye on. I honestly wasn't aware that the car stayed in open loop at lower temps. I just assumed my (lack of) fuel mileage was due to all the modding :)

Mine is set up at 175/185. Cooling mods are the same except my radiator is a LFP instead of a Fluidyne.

Car runs around 190~195 on the interstate without the AC, with the AC it runs around 210. But that is on 90+ degree days. When it gets hot (and no, 90 isn't hot) it stays around 215 with the AC on.

I wonder why the large difference in temps between you and me. I never see over 180 unless I'm beating on it. Im generally betweel 170-178. But if your getting to 190 id say you might be in closed loop. Im not sure what the cutoff is for the PCM or if its tunable or such.

I have an 180* thermostat and set my 'low speed on' at that temp., off at 195. High speed comes on at 195* and turns back off at 190*. What thermostat are you running? Doesn't make sense to pull air through your radiator if the water is not flowing.

My car is similiar Doc. Fans are set at 172/185, runs around 180 without a/c. However, I have a Killer Chiller installed now so the a/c is on all the time. In heavy traffic I'm seeing 210 degrees, light traffic 200 degrees.

So far so good, my IATs were 30 degrees cooler on the dyno last week. I have since bypassed my heat exchanger for the summer to improve the KC's efficiency. My coolant tank gets coated with condensation like it was a beer!

Cool, pun intended.

Hey Ron, as long as the tuner has software to change it, your tuner should be able to adjust your Open/Closed Loop thresholds for you based on your build. The Spanish Oak OS has this as a variable since this version is being used in so many Ford vehicles.

my low is set at 180 and high at 190. on a 7 hour drive yesterday it would get up to 210 in the day and then 190 by night. Cruise control was on and rpm was at a steady 3000.
It has a meziere pump, and no thermostat. the mpg on that trip was 17.3

That makes perfect sense, however, isn't the coolant/water going through the bypass while the t-stat is closed?

I was of the understanding that the fans cut off at X mph, someone told me it was 30 mph, is that true or is it bullshit
