Thanks for the input, Terry. Do you think the T-2R would still be good for a lot of street use? I did some reading over on Corner Carvers and read a lot of good things about the Eaton Truetrack. I'll be honest--I'm also leaning in that direction due to cost reasons and the fact that I do drag race every so often.

If you're going to do any drag racing, I'd suggest the Boss Torsen or the Trutrac. According to Torsen, and FRPP, and a lot of other people, the T2R is not for drag racing:

I don't want to be misinterpreted here, I think the T2R is a really nice unit, and for autocross or road racing, or even on the street, I think it would be a perfect unit for anything under 500hp. Just don't drag race with it -is what I'm saying.

Another + for the truetrac I love it and it's been reliably spinning both tires everytime!

So you're saying the Truetrac works well on the street, strip, and road course. I might just pick up that Eaton when funds allow.

I can't necessarily speak to the T2R, but the T2s that Ford uses in the GT500 and Boss do not have any wearable clutches. Having seen the Ford T2 disassembled, what's shown in the Torsen diagram above as "multiplate clutches" are actually about 1/4" thick steel plates.

I've driven the TruTrac, and Boss T2 in S197s; I like the BOSS T2 more. I can really notice it rotating the car on-power if I've got the wheel turned. No complaints about the TruTrac but I didn't get the same "wow this thing is really working" feeling from it. I am looking forward to trying a T2R if my Boss T2 ever needs to be replaced.

I have limited experience with it so far, as I just installed it a month ago or so. So I can't really call it the perfect diff yet. However, I did a lot of research, talked to long time owners of all the various gear diffs, considered the failures I've seen and found, and really looked at what I needed out of a diff considering my power level, and the Trutrac fit all of it with reasonable exception. Which for me is street, strip, autocross, and track. I really considered the Boss/GT500 Torsen, but it was almost twice the price as the -what I would consider comparable, Trutrac.

I don't want this to sound like I'm waving the Trutrac flag because it's what I have. It's just that it does what I need it to do considering my power, price, and uses. If I didn't drag race at all, I'd be running a T2R. Or, if money weren't a consideration, I'd be running a Boss T2.

The pic I posted above is specifically the T2R and clearly shows friction plates, as does Torsens description of the T2R. The T2 in the Boss doesn't have them, as you mentioned. The Boss T2 is, according to Torsen themselves, the strongest Torsen by 40%. And it would have been my pick if it weren't nearly twice the price of the Trutrac.

What's your power level? At this time, there are zero plans for me to do anything to my engine other than N/A bolt-ons.

654hp/586tq currently, but bigger injectors and a smaller pulley are going on soon so it'll be more like 700/625ish.

Even n/a, I would be very cautious at the drag strip with slicks and a Torsen (except the Boss T2, they seem to be holding up at even high HP levels). When I broke my regular T2 I was maybe making 450rwh at that time. I ran it on the street for quite a while, and I believe I autocrossed at least once with it, but the very first run at the drag strip with slicks it let go on the launch. This was with a single turbo '93 cobra that weighed 3350lbs without driver, with 3.55's, Tremec 3550, and a stock 302.

Yeah, I'm not serious enough to run slicks at the drag strip. That's good to know about the Torsens, though.

In that case, any one of those diffs would work very well for you, and I would strongly consider the T2R for the high bias.

A little off topic here but I'm running out of options on who to ask. I recently purchased a 2013 GT 500 Torsen from a member on another forum but it looks like he cheated me because the Thrust Plate (block that goes inside diff) is just to big. Sure I can move the cradle part side to side to accommodate for width (left to right) but top to bottom it's a no go. I contacted Torsen but they said the thrust plate is not for sale since it is installed at the factory. So here is my question.....Does anyone happen to have a thrust plate for a 2013 GT 500 Torsen diff laying around? Thanks and have a good weekend.

I can't get it through Ford, and if Torsen won't sell you one, I think you're out of luck.

So, what about dealing with the guy you bought it from? How did you pay? Can you show us pics of what you're referring to? Those plates are different depending on which Torsen it is. So it's possible the guy got them mixed up if he had two torsens at one time. Are you sure your Torsen is a GT500 unit?

Thanks for the help. The guy says everything is in order but it is not because even on top of the thrust plates missing the left side bearing seems to have been spun and it easily slides on and off. I payed through paypal. I will post picks when I get home.

It sounds like you got a junk unit. The bearings are press on, if it slides on and off it's garbage.

I'd file a claim through Paypal, and ship that junk back to the seller.

I don't want to derail this really good thread, but does anyone know if the Torsen in the Track Pack GT cars is the same as the BOSS 302? I always assumed, but was t sure.

If the track pack GT's did get a Torsen, then it would be the same as the Boss LS and 13/14 GT500's.

Look back at my first post. There are 3 different Torsens. I believe the Track Pack comes with the least-expensive ones.

There is only one Torsen installed in the production Mustangs, and it's the new T2 (Ford part number CR3Z-4026-A, or FRPP part number M-4204-MB, and is actually the most expensive of the 3 you listed). The Boss 302R race car comes with the T2R. And the early T2 came on 02-09 Ranger FX4 level 2's.

In another thread here, we confirmed that the '13/14 Track pack GT's, Boss LS, and '13/14 GT500's all have the new Torsen T2.

Oh. Then which is which on JPC's web site?
