1/10/14 UPDATE:
CRANKSHAFT
Forged Cobra crank came in the mail. First piece of the "new motor," so I'm pretty excited! I will drop it off to get turned/polished on Monday. Minor scouring, the worst of which is pictured below. I don't feel it's anything to worry about. I can't really feel the grooves with my fingernail, so I'm sure polishing .010" under will be adequate.
PISTONS
I wasn't sure on compression ratio desired, but I've decided on low-mid 9s. With 91 gas and ~15psi boost, I think the 11cc dish pistons will be good. I ordered them today, and they should be here next Wednesday or Thursday.
I went with Manley Platinum series in a 2618 alloy, plasma-moly rings, bored .020" over to match the block.....
BLOCK
...which I will be getting either Sunday (if they guy meets my friend half way at the track), or Tuesday (I have the day off and will drive 3hrs to meet him). It's the FRPP Aluminator block. I've seen pics only so far, but it looks good and is supposed to be "ready to go" already bored out .020". I will have my shop look over it to make sure nothing was messed up. "Trust but verify."
RODS
I snatched up some young Manley rods from an 03 Cobra (only 20k miles at 450 whp). They should be here Tuesday or Wednesday.
CLUTCH / FLYWHEEL
I got a SMOKIN deal on clutch and flywheel. I currently have a Spec 3+ 10spline clutch and 6 bolt Spec aluminum flywheel. I am now using an 8 bolt flywheel and 26spline input shaft (once I beef up my 3650). I was
not looking forward to having to buy new versions of the same clutch ($490 for the clutch and $320 for the flywheel), but I found a guy selling a Spec 3+ 26spline clutch and Spec 8 bolt billet steel flywheel, and I got them for $150 shipped. Less than 5k miles on them! Saved a lot of money on that one (which went entirely towards those pistons)
========================================================
I've borrowed my girlfriend's DSLR camera for the build/progress, so I should have quality photos. I'll try to be intuitive throughout the build thread, but definitely let me know if you have suggestions or questions! This thread is for discussion (and to keep me busy between working on the car -- waiting on machining and whatnot).
Brother's Catalina STILL isn't back together. I got home tonight after a week of traveling, expecting more, but I guess he's been too busy with school. Family is in town this weekend, so I'm not expecting to make much progress until Monday.
Thanks for reading!
