No you don't have to degree them. That is basically just checking the advertised spec of the cam and if they match bank to bank... but no, degreeing is not required.

For anything over a 350.. you would need limiters at minimum. You can lock any of them out. Issue is with high lift cams you need a more durable and stiffer spring. With a stiff spring that will survive that lift your phasers will not be able to fully control them so they have to be limited to 20* max.. or lock them. Normally the vct has 59* of control over the cams...

guess i would say 450 cause i have stock gears. but my posi is shot so that needs rebuilt and could put taller gears in it like comp recommends for the 550

550's. You have so much TQ gearing doesn't matter.

Awesome even better. For those short miles she was nasty. Thanks ordering cams and lock outs today. Probably headers too. Fuck it. Equal lengths or long tubes... hmmm

Locking out the cams really depends on the what springs you use. Some springs are so firm that the VCT becomes useless and the valve springs over powers the capabilities of the VCT. So you lock them out.

I will be installing 127450s with PAC 3V springs which VCT cannot be controlled with these springs. So I have locking them out and removing the VCT solenoids. Thus this is where that VCT seal plug comes in. lol
I will also degree my cams as you don't really want to run modded cams without degreeing them. You would lose too much bottom or top end.

I would only use limiters with stock or light-weight springs which are used with mild cams.

Street car? 450s

He has a DOB kit. These m122 blowers have ridiculous torque down low (more than the tvs even) so the big cams would likely fit this kit nicely.. mostly cause he has forged motor and can take advantage of the blower. The roots blowers normally don't do as well up top (although it is much better with the tvs).. if he were going tvs I would actually prefer the 127550 still. I could not use my power down low with the 127350.. just a tire smoke show lol.

Unless on sticky tires at the track, I would give up some bottom end torque (mostly unusable) for some top end.

Thoughts?

450s have better vac and some sc bypasses do not play nice with 550s, I suggest getting them, TFS gears and limiters.

I have to agree with Lito...thus why I went with 450s.
I am locking them out and retarding them by 4 degrees.

The idle with 550s for a street car will be rough along with the no power/torque from idle to 2,500rpm or so.

There are RPM's between idle and 2500? Weird.

Another vote for the 127450's. Even with the NSR Hot Rod cams I had nothing down low and trying to idle my way through parking lots was a huge pain in the ass. The 450's work great at low rpm with a good idle and the ability to let out the clutch below 1500rpm without stalling.

Haha...yes there are. Although the most fun RPMs are between 4500 to 7500. lol

But yes, for a street car, 1,000-3,000 rpm is your driving range. I mean putting around town.

You ever talk to L&M?

Not yet... by the time I go to bed they aren't open. And when I wake up they are closed. Working 7-12s with no nights off for 2 months makes me not want to do anything. I'll be on days next week. I'll call and order another like... 2 grand in shiiiit

Found my spring box. This is what's in the heads now

since i am pulling the motor again and having to order cams i just ordered BBK tuned length ceramic coated shorties. did want to but i did. i like the simplicity for manifolds... anyone have any times to keep the nuts from coming loose like they always seem to do on headers? i have stainless studs in the motor now... thanks

oh and the DAMN lock outs too from livernois... really wish someone had mentioned id have to mod the phasers with these springs i got... :/

Yes they should have mentioned the phasers need to be limited at minimum with those springs when you purchased them.

I don't like shorty headers personally.. not sure if I would go thru the hassle to run them over stock manifolds.. but, since you are here, look up "super 8" header locks. I love them and never had a leak using them since.. Think they are like $50 ish
