clean tach signal repin help

I want to re pin my ecu for the clean tach signal. Like in the thread below

I have never done anything like this before. I went to the just yard a pulled a couple of pins from some older fords. Can anyone give me any tips or help. Also is can anyone tell me how to find the correct pins. The plug in the thread above was not like any I could find. i dont wanna pull everything apart to find out i have the wrong pin. any help would be great.

Did this myself years ago and ran into the problem that it's a square shaped pin. I solved it pretty easily by using a round pin from a pre-2005 wiring harness I had from my 1999 Mustang. I pulled out one of the EEC pins from the engine wiring harness (along with about 1 foot of wire left on it), and using a pair of needle nose, I gently flattened it to a square shape until it fit into the harness of my 2008 Mustang. Took about 5 minutes to get it into the shape I needed.

Next, I inserted the pin along with a dab of gel superglue to keep it in place. You can't trust the pin lock because of having to reform the pin.

It's been 5 years since I've done it and haven't had a single problem with the clean RPM signal from Pin 25.

I don't believe this works on pre 07.5. When they updated the heads and shit. My 05 I had to use a tach adapter.

Blurry pic this is a pin I pulled yesterday out of the only harness i could find. My car was built in 02/07 will it work or do I need a tach adapter. A buddy of mine gave me a msd ignition pick up. Part no. 8919. But I couldn't get it to work as a temp solution. Until I got my pcm re pinned or a tach adapter. I am praying I can re pin it as I don't like cutting wires.

Can't really tell anything from the picture, but if it was my car I would go ahead and insert the pin into the harness/connector and check the output on my tac. Myself, I'm using it to run both my Raptor and Turbomart Boost Controller without a problem.

It's a round pin I tried to find a square pin but no luck. Everyone pretty much snatches the harness and ecu's up ASAP. I am extremely nervous when it comes to wiring. I can deal with hard parts all day long. As that's what I do at work but on cats. Marine diesel engines are not as complicated though.

Same problem I had, but I squared with a pair of needle nose pliers and patience. If you're not comfortable, I would find someone in your area who is. I work electronics, powertrain, and airframe extensively, so my comfort level is pretty high when it comes to things like this.

Yeah, I think that's what I will do. I have repined things in 3508's & 3512's but they have huge connectors and really everything just pulls apart and snapped back together. I have the tach wired and the signal wire long enough to be ran already. I just have it rolled and zipped tied at the moment. So maybe it won't cost that much to get hooked it up. Re pinned or a adapter I guess I'll call jms or tdc performance and see what they would charger.

Actually, the same is true for the EEC connector. Disconnect power from car, remove EEC connector, unclip the four tabs that secure the cover to the back of the connector which will expose the wiring that goes into the pins.

Then looking at the front of the connector, and it's markings of pin #'s, find #25. Reform pin to square shape, test fit in EEC connector, apply super glue, insert pin until it's flush with the other pins, let adhesive set, re-attach EEC connect, apply power to car, and test.

If test is successful, remove power from vehicle, remove EEC connector, re-install the protective cover on back, apply power, and you're done.

...i have plenty of those square pcm connector pins and wires...
you have to insert those into the connector wire-end first, from the face side (the side that goes agains the pcm); this is different than most other connectors.
Once the wire is slid through the proper hole in the connector and the pin is pulled into correct orientation, you have to tilt the pin to get it into the connector, then gently push downward on the front part of the pin to get it into position. Of course the red cap/cover is not in place during all of this. ('someone' should make a video to illustrate..)

I Googled it and there is no video of anyone re pinning the pcm. So that is a great idea. I wouldn't be the one to do it though. People would be lost big time, lol.

yeah I can send one to your for a couple bucks. Got a wire-color preference? Might not have the exact color, but it'll be close (4"-20" of wire on the pin, whatever is there.).

I'm just gonna throw this out there not sure it will work but I used to have ford rangers and when I would put the tach in I'd pull the cluster and tap into the tach wire off of the and that always worked.

All 07+ have this.

There is no tach out wire in these cars. Doesn't work this way.

A buddy of mine has a 07 and he said his didn't. He used a tach adapter. He a has the old style head and new water cross over. But I think I'm gonna have to dig in to his pcm and have a look.

All 07's use the same PCM hardware so he probably did something wrong.

New heads are a 08.5 thing and totally unrelated, all 07's have old style heads.
