Let's hope Ford also gets the memo about weight. The camaro weighing less than the mustang... that's unheard of. Put them things on a damn diet already. The S550 was supposed to be lighter than the S197, but it ended up 100-200 lbs heavier... :(

Need to start going the other way fast. Make the car the size/weight of a sn95/new edge, and I'll buy one in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd get one of each (four banger ecoboost and a GT).

Wrong, base model to base model, the S550 is only 40-60lbs heavier. It's not a big difference. I don't think Ford is really concerned with making the S550 any lighter, the S550 is better overall compared to the Camaro, despite falling short in the performance category.

The 2017 camaro upends the mustang in every possible category. The 1LE SS will simply annihilate the GT350 on track. I don't think Ford has anything for GM.

Idk... the 1 LE is a pretty stout ride Jason. It pains me to say that but its supposed to be a tough car now.

I agree it's set up very well. But I highly doubt it will "simply annihilate" the GT350 track pack. It may be as fast. or a touch faster (tenths), but it won't smoke it. And it won't be in the same galaxy as the GT350R.

It really all comes down to tires in the end. The GT350R isn't much faster than the GT350 track Pack with the same rubber. It's a couple of tenths.

Yea... I see what you mean. I agree it wont annihilate the GT350 by any means but it could very well give it a run for its money depending on situation.

Absolutely it can. It's a good package.

That said lap times for these cars crack me up. 99.9% of the driving population will have the same lap time no matter what they're driving. That lap time will represent how fast they can go, not the car. And it will be 10-25sec below what the car can run.:whistle1::clap:

And if these cars aren't at the track it really doesn't matter. You can't use 75-95% of what these cars have to offer on the street. They're going the direction of sportbikes. Way too capable for the street.

IRS and all those gadgets and gizmos add up.
Bring back an LX style option, I may finally abandon the 06

This^

Most people are going to race light to light in both and that win is going to go to the better driver.

Honestly, I don't see a wing like that being for a GT500.

However, I wonder if Ford is screwing with GT500 gearheads?

Not trying to play devil's advocate here, but how exactly is the S550 better overall when compared with the Camaro ? Not only does the S550 fall short in the performance category, but also falls short in the weight category as well..

While the S550 has gained 40-60lbs over the now previous gen S-197, the current Camaro is now approx 200lbs lighter on the ATS/Alpha platform..

Although the Camaro now shares the same platform as the Cadillac ATS.. IMHO it really hasn't changed that much from a visual standpoint and appears as though GM did more of a mid cycle re-fresh rather than a complete redesign..

With that being said, I still prefer the S550 over the current gen Camaro despite it's lighter weight and better overall performance..

I think the main reason Camaro "loses" is ergonomics. A Mustang is the better daily between the two. The 5th gen Camaro always lost in the comfort department and the 6th gen is probably smaller on the inside. Either way, car enthusiast win. Both cars are pretty incredible.

Camaro has just as much room as an S550. Window line is too high to prop an elbow while cruising, and they should have just deleted the rear glass. Can't see shit using the rear view.

Both cars are ugly as fuck LOL, but the ATS platform is pretty stout. A loaded SS will price out a couple grand higher, but its the better car. Marking up the GT350 (which is a better comparison to the SS than the standard GT), doesn't help matters. 8300rpm redline on the 5.2 is sexy, but not $80k+ sexy.

It's perspective, guys. I agree with some of the aforementioned comments about the 1LE being similar, not vastly different, in track performance.

However, there's one major thing that sets these two cars apart - designation.

The 1LE is a package. The Shelby - well it's a Shelby. VIN'd and serialized.

To me, that's what makes it special. But again, that's only my perspective.
