Finished the clutch job with my friend, had a setback when the McLeod clutch line kept popping off at the top connector, had to swap back to the factory fluid line.
But it feels good, driving it back to the house now :)

Nope.

Today I had the horrible errand of taking the Shelby on a clutch break-in drive.
So off to get some groceries, taking minimal highway, mostly backroads to force a lot of shifting.
Nothing like a 700+ horsepower grocery getter :)

I've taken mine to the wholesale club many times on my way home from Sunday Funday cruise mornings.

I have thought many times, maybe I should get a decent 07-09 gt500 and get rid of my GT, but I ask myself. Which one sounds better? I really like the 3v sound, definitely above the 5.0 coyotes, but I think the 3v and 5.4 are pretty close. Close enough, the right exhaust options and no one will tell the difference.

People then respond with, get the GT500 anyway, and save the money of getting that power level from a GT. Then you have people like sportinawoody that make me see, who cares, dump the change in a 3v. Quick 3v's are becoming far and few in between. In the end, when you get to that point, who's counting pennies anyway..

Not to play devil's advocate, but I'm certain that owners looking to sell their low-mid mile "07-09" GT500's are also far and few between as well. Take Gabe's wife "08" GT500 for instance. IMHO if they were actively looking to sell their GT500? you would think they would've done so by now, but rather they prefer to hold onto it instead, so therefore I can certainly understand why as they keep their rides in very excellent condition and continue to enjoy them lol. I would also think even a higher mileage "07-09" GT500 that's still in really decent condition will continue to be worth more than what an 05-10 GT is worth. Unless you're somehow able to come across an "07-09" GT500 between 25k-35k? I just don't see how selling your current GT is going to save you any real money over what it would cost towards adding a S/C which would get you near the same power level as an "07-09" GT500 for less money. Anyhow, just saying

I was looking (dreaming) a few weeks ago at 07-09 gt500s in my area, and found a nice one with I think around 70k miles for less than 25k. It looked bone stock too, which is what I'd want if I were to make the jump. But there's probably slim to no chance that's going to happen for me. I could build my engine, get a 6060, and be at ~600 to the wheels for less than the 12-15k itd cost me to get into a gt500. (That's assuming someone would buy a modded 09 GT for 12-13k)

My thinking was, I have read a lot about, "you need to upgrade to the GT500 this or that..." Rather than upgrading everything, I wanted to start with a platform that had 90+% of what I wanted to begin with. That is, of course, after revising my thinking when I found quite a few GT500s, in my price range, while looking for a GT.

There are some motivated sellers right now.

If the owner who's selling the "07-09" GT500 with 70k miles for less than 25k? it would definitely be worth taking a look at IMO, providing of course it's bone stock and hasn't been beaten to death lol. but If not? then I agree your best bet would be to hold onto your "09 GT and build it up the way you want for less money.

I doubt I could find the listing again, but it still had the M122, and stock pulley, so that, to me, means its likely stock. If I could have scrapped up the money I would have looked at it closer.

Having the money on hand is definitely the most important factor, especially when it comes to finding cars like the "07-09" GT500 for 25k or less. If their mostly bone stock and haven't been abused to the point of no return? you know they're not going to be available for very long. Therefore unless you have at least 25k at your disposal? which unfortunately really sucks for those of us who obviously do not, are just much better off in the long run by holding onto their current rides and build them up at their own pace for less money

Usually find something like this when I'm looking. Looks like it's been pully'd. That would not bother me if everything checked out fine. There's another one for 20k and some change. Looks bone stock, but has almost 100k miles on it.

Check out a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible RWD - $25,800 on CarGurus at https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/share/260072492

If everything checks out and looks mostly bone stock? I would definitely consider a 100k mile "07-09" Shelby GT500 as being worth 20k for sure!

Also wanted to add the "08" GT500 which lists for 25.8k on Car Gurus? there must be something wrong with it if it has only 25,226 original miles as advertised

I had some shop rental time scheduled to finally do the brake upgrade. I figured I should check out all the pieces to make sure everything was right. The first thing I saw was that the kit was listed for a 2012-present GT350, which is weird because IIRC the 2012 GT350 has the same rear axle and spindles as the GT. But, the individual part numbers were different than Wilwood has listed for just the GT. Great. Shelby American screws up again. Turns out after many emails back and forth that the only thing that won't fit my car is the emergency brake cables. Good news! Now I'm waiting for the cables to come in before I can reschedule the shop time. Anyway, got the rotors and hats bolted together. Should save some shop rental time. These things are huge for rear rotors.

I went through the same thought process last fall. Found an 08 GT500 with 80k kms (around 50k miles) that would have cost me around $15k above what I figured my GT was worth. I did briefly put my car up for sale but a combination of dealing with tire kickers and finding a hell of a deal on a Vortech put an end to that.
