When adding the reloc kit, do you run a bit more oil in the motor? I ask as some (idk how much) is sitting in the extra lines.

Yes , it will take more oil to fill to the full mark since you added more volume with the lines and such . You still need the same level in the pan.

I would imagine you would need to make up for the extra lines and the bigger filter.

Ahhhh, beat me off the line .

The additional oil capacity is one of the advantages of running an additional filter, oil cooler, and/or relocation.
I'm going to give the oil cooler with twin filter setup a shot. I've got everything I think I need on order from Summit. Thanks to the OP for the thread and to 'Lightblade' again for the input.

Just added protection man - I'm running 7k RPM's for 30 minutes at a time on the road course. I've got a lot of dough into this engine and want it to last as long as possible. Filters and oil are cheap compared to rods and bearings.

Ahhh that makes sense :thumb:

Get some fuel injection clamps on there. They are under a dollar a piece, for safety. They look better also. U have to remember that it still is pressurized from the oil pressure. U can get fuel injection clamps from napa.

Thanks! I may try those out as well!

I kept checking the dipstick after filling it up with the normal amount. I ended up adding a little more than usual, but it wasn't a lot. Mine is mounted fairly close to the stock location so my hoses aren't that long.

No problem man! I actually never considered the additional capacity - I just never like how tiny the filter was on these cars compared to the size of the engine. I did it more for the advantage of running a much larger filter, and also making oil changes a little easier. (Oil dripping all over the swaybar & PS lines was getting old):argh:

I want to replace the hoses that come with this kit with something else. Is there a minimum PSI rating that I should be looking for? I am looking at a couple hoses that I have used for other stuff and they are rated 250psi and 350psi. They say they are good for oil.

Are these okay to use?

So does the FL-1A have the same thread as the FL-820S filter? I bought the same kit you have and I am going out to get some new oil and filter and want to make sure the FL-1A is the right choice.

No, its different but almost all the oil filter reloc kits convert to a different thread size its 3/4-16, the FL1A uses this size.

Yes I would use transmission grade hose, not fuel or heater hose. 250-350 burst strength is fine.

AMSOIL makes a remote filter set-up with dual filters. One filter( the full flow filter) uses a media that captures smaller particles (1micron) while the other acts as a bypass filter (could be a stock type filter). The claim is that all the oil in a 6qt system goes through the full flow filter in 5 minutes. The bypass filter allows oil that doesn't go through the full flow filter to at least still be filtered by a standard type oil filter rather than backing up the flow or building too much pressure on the dirty side of the filters.

cool mod , now if someone clever could come up with a remote drain plug so we didnt have to get under the car we would be in business!!! lol x)

That reminds me. I had installed an oil pre/post lube pump on a 93 F-150 5.0 I had a while back. That system had a fluid quick disconnect that allowed me to pull the hose apart from under the hood then start the aux pump with the engine off in order to pump the used oil from the engine. Then reconnect the hose, change the oil filter and refill with oil.

Beauty was I could run the pump before starting the engine and also set it to run for maybe 5 minutes after shutting off the engine to help cool the engine through additional oil circulation.

Mot- Have you ever hear, or is it even possible to have a system like that in an S197?

General question- Would there be an easy way to incorporate an Oberg filter into a relocation kit? Has anyone done that?

Cool mod, looks like a clean install too!
