Godzilla was awesome! Here is my review.
If you liked the 2014 Godzilla, but thought it needed more Godzilla this definitely fills that void. The visuals were amazing, the sound was tremendous and the music was awesome. They remixed and sampled a lot of the original Toho themes and it was awesome. The little kid in me was going insane when Godzilla's theme came blasting on the screen. The monster battles were epic. They really understood the source material and did all the monsters justice. The slight tweaks they made to Godzilla's design were perfect. Ghidora was massive and menacing, Rodan's design was really cool and made for some awesome visuals, and Mothra as always looked fantastic. There were so many easter eggs and nods to the original japanese films this was truly a movie made for the fans. As a huge godzilla fan, I loved just about every minute of this movie.
But the movie did have some flaws. At the same time while it is such an awesome fan service movie, it could also be what some people don't like about it. If you don't catch the easter eggs or get the nods to the originals you would be lost. There are also tons of references to the 2014 film, and Kong Skull Island. The plot was really weak, and some of the characters make really dumb decisions that are pretty much made just to get to the next action set piece. There is your typical one dimensional characters(all though I did enjoy them. You could tell some are there for comic relief, others are there to explain stuff). And some of the characters IMO were wasted. Despite the almost 2.5 hour run time, it didn't feel like a long movie but it could have been a little longer to give some characters more screen time. That said, it's a Godzilla movie. You are going to watch Godzilla kick ass and blow shit up. So as a Godzilla movie it was truly awesome. If you like Godzilla or monster movies go see it in theaters, if you are just a casual fan you could probably wait.
Oh and there is a short post credit scene
