Anyone in Orange Country MUST go to this. It is $70 for all day autocross at El Toro Airbase. Only 5 cars showed up. Basically no wait for runs.
This was basically my first autocross with my car. I have done road course at fontana and another autocross with a Rx-8.
The five cars were: Turbo Miata, S2k, Tiburon, G35 and my GT.
My car was consistently 1-1.5 sec faster than the rest. Times were around sub 55 sec for me.
Because there were so few cars, I got to ride in each of the other cars.
Here are a few observances my passenger and I made.
Mustang's suspension is insanely twitchy relative to s2k and g35. Its fast but just twitchy everywhere. At the fast right hander I have to let off and I am really hustling the car around with oversteer then understeer then oversteer understeer.
S2000. Obviously the choice of car for autocross. He was running stock with 255/235 sticky tires. He was obviously braking slightly later than me. Felt very stable through corners and he could power through the high speed right hander (due to not building enough speed). But stable throughout the course.
G35. I was insanely surprised at the smoothness of the car. It is not twitchy at all around corners or planting the power. It is very confidence inspiring. He was running only springs and exhaust.
