considering adding a supercharger to my 07 gt convertible.. whos the best.. without blowing motor all to hell whats the safe hp range.. car has 108k on the clock and it is an automatic..

saw this one already
http://www.brenspeed.com/bren520r.html#scProductReviews|undefined3
think it might be much for my motor tho
thanks charles

Ford Racing Whipple. Use the supplied tune, it's written by Ford and very safe for the motor. It also has the driveability of a stock car.

There is no such thing as a safe hp range. You can probably get away with more hp provided other things are ideal like iat, fuel, and of course the tune.

Spend some time with the search feature. You will find out that there isn't any one best. There are some to stay away from but everyone has a different opinion.

If money is a concern the Department of Boost kit with a M122 GT500 blower will work very well. Get a tune from lito (Manuel Pazo) and it will be one of the safest options for a positive displacement blower.

There are so many choices and most are good. You have to decide what you want for power, how you want it to come on (pd vs centri), how much you can spend, how difficult of an installation you can deal with, and what you like.

There are many documented installs on this site. My advice would be to read and form an opinion based on actual experience. What I mean by that is be able to separate the folks with experience from the guys who are just talking about what they read.

i have searched and got info overload.. lol most say this will do that or this.. i'm looking for about 400 to 450ish at the wheels if possible.. but i've been told 3v motors don't handle much over 450lbs of torque without having rod issues.. true or false?

i like turn key approach tho..one place warrants the setup..dunno how well they stand behind it tho.

i like the ford racing one to i have a bud who works at a local ford dealership that was his suggestion to..

You are correct that 450 and above can be an interesting place to be.

With your stated one stop shop, ford racing kit would be tough to beat.

+1 for DOB GT450 and +1 for the Ford Racing Whipple. As Bruce stated, any time forced induction is introduced into the equation, especially over 400whp it's only a matter of if, not when. But the more time (and $$$) you spend in buying the right parts and supporting mods and learning from the mistakes of others, you'll have a higher chance of prolonging any major incidents. But it's worth the smiles. :nixon:

Don't get too carried away...esp with that 5r auto tranny..+ 108K miles on it. The FRPP 475 crank hp blower kit would be ample. The FRPP 550 crank hp kit is for manual only...although any tuner version will work with an automatic. If it was me, I'd opt for a 11-16 car if you wanted an automatic, then at least you get the 6R80 auto tranny....which is much stronger.

If you're planning on boosting at all, make sure you have a back up plan. There's no telling when or where the stock engine will let go. Mine let go 1 month after putting a Whipple on. If you don't have another car to drive then I'd steer clear.

I'd buy a used coyote with 50k or less on Odometer rather than put a SC on that 108k old dog. It's a slippery edge your going to walk on, falling into the money pit of modding and rebuilding a 4.6 3v 5r55s is deep and the waters murky so you won't see the drop off till it's to late.

I added a Vortech SC when the engine had 18k on the clock, kept it to 450rwhp on the stock block with a good tune and had no issues. Then I wanted more and slipped.

You'd be better off with a centeifugal unit, they are "easier" on the motor and trans being its gradual build of power and not just smashing air into the engine immediately and twisting the trans with a high amount of torque right off the bat. Keep the boost lower and get a safe tune, and if long tubes are an option I'd put them on, they'll really help with both power and getting all that added pressure out of the cylinders.

Would you NEED cmdp with these superchargers? I know it's a mod everyone does first

no. I had a V2SQ on my 06GT and kept the CMPD. Not everyone does the delete mod... now the BTD mode is a must..... :whistle1:

I bought a Paxton blower from Brenspeed last December. It was less than 4K and I did the install myself. Very easy install, it took me about 8 hours. I added the delete plates and FRPP TB. It makes 425 rwhp. I picked the centrifugal type blower because it was less shock to the drive train. As others have stated the rods are the issue with these motors. The Paxton has gradual power. A much different driving experience than the Cobra's I have had in the past. I miss that whine!!! You can't really hear the Paxton blower. Good luck!!!

Vorshlag racing was getting 440 rwhp out of their manual NA 2011...with a CAI+LT's and a 93 tune. If I had to do this again, at least for an automatic DD car, I'd opt for a 11-15 car, auto. Then perhaps add the cai /lt's /94 tune..and call it a day for hp. Then no IAT's to worry about in hot wx.... plus you then have a 6r80 auto tranny that is a helluva lot better than a 5r55s.

As noted above, a built 3V + built 5r55 + blower = lotsa $$.

That deep, murky waters analogy is one of the best I've ever read regarding modifying any vehicle. I'll be using it in the future. Wise people around here.

I put a vortech on my 136k mile car. Then I realized I need suspension... And a trans... And stickier tires... And I should probably build the bottom end because I already want more power...

What I'm getting at is it will be a never ending money pit. I think it's crazy for people to suggest selling your car for something that will cost at least $10k more just to gain ~100hp. The coyote really isn't THAT MUCH better than a 3V, and you will be in the same situation just another $10k+ in the hole.

If you can afford to fix stuff when it breaks (and trust me a stock 5r55 won't last long) then I would definitely put a blower on it. If its going to cost every dime nickle and Penny you own just to put them blower on, I would recommend a different avenue.

That's exactly how it is.
