There should be a 3L2E or 3L1E somewhere on the block IIRC that will tell you which casting it is.

yeah, I thought there should be a number similar to that format somewhere. Nothing obvious.

There are stamped letters/numbers, like this:

And then there are handwritten letters/numbers (done with an engraver, looks like).

Where would this 3L2E be located?

Does "PB170" mean anything ? All info I'm finding about block number IDing is about old motors ('60s and '70s ish)

It will be cast into the side of the block near the bottom. You can see it in the background of your picture above. It will look something like this:

it should be near the bottom toward the rear of the engine IICR. I am not sure that is an 05+ block, was it advertised as that? The valve looks different from my block...

Not sure it is a 1L block either. This is a 1L block pic...(Stolen Pic)

What was the block out of? It doesn't look like it was out of a mustang. You can see the difference between your pictures and Fuels pictures. The Stamp that says what it is would be on the lower corner of the block where the starter is.

Hmm.. Well boys, looks like it's not the block I had hoped for.
It's definitely different.

I don't have the block number (out of the 40 pics I took of the block, I somehow missed that :dunce:), but I can see it probably isn't "3L1E" or L2. Looks like "_ _ 2E" but the second letter looks like P or T or F

(zoomed in on this pic as far as I could without being too blury)

So I have no clue what this block is out of. Next question is, will this block still work?

He has a Teksid block. It will need motor mount adapters.

Glad to have that figured out. I thought the valley looked too narrow to be WAP when I saw it, but I really don't know much (obviously). :newbie:

^^That was what I was thinking. I have been searching the net looking for Teksid pics. It will also require drilling out a water passage on the deck and some extra sealing for the timing cover.

Not the end of the world. Not excited about extra work, but not the end of the world.

I think I'd rather do those things than sell this to buy a WAP.

Next, will someone pat my back and tell me everything will be okay with a Teksid block. From what I've read, they're strong blocks, too.

It's a Teksid, made in Italy. You will need motor mount adapters. They are good blocks. It will do just fine. Probably came out of an older cobra.

No issues with using that block. Just looked different and was posting to figure it all out. Making sure you knew all the info on the block so you would know the modifications it would need to be used as a 3v. :thumb:

Isn't this the hole which I would need to drill? Or am I disoriented?

These are photos from the modification write-up cited above.

Sure looks like it's been done already. I would double check it with your head gaskets though.

UPDATE 1/15/14

Pistons and rods are here!

Also, I got the block number. Like previously mentioned, all the info I've found on block numbers has been about old motors. I'm not asking to be spoon fed, but would someone point me to the place with the info so I can track this block down?

All modular cranks including coyote have the same rod journal size.

Also, I've verified that the two manuals were, in fact, giving the ID of the connecting rods in one book, and the OD of the crank journal in the other (without saying so?!?!?!!).
(Measurement is slightly off; these are old bearings I had laying around)

Feels like Christmas with all these new parts coming in daily!

(Keywords for internet searches: RFXE, RFXE-6015 2277099)

Found this thread, and have decided to ditch this block and hunt for another, WELL KNOWN block for my build. Anyone know of a reasonable block for sale????

My gut says "NO" and I'm going to listen.

The thread above discusses RFXE blocks as being "experimental" spray in bore, etc... No visible/discernible differences, but just basically unknown.

Build now goes on hold until I either
a) get solid, complete information on this block, or
b) get another block, with the correct/well known casting number.

Really bums me out, but I'll sleep better at night this way.

Is this block machinable? The owner says it checked out fine, but will need to be bored .020" over (which is good, because my pistons are .020" over).

That rust is just surface rust, right?
