free mod, more fuel flow?

the guy who told me about this also had a Supercharger, I would not do this on a N/A car anyway. I was thinking about the Saleen car at the Bamchips Dyno Day that ran out of fuel at 400hp. if he had 60# injectors and the fuel pump was able to push more fuel but the restriction was at the rail flange, could drilling out the hole and increase the overall flow help him get 450 before he starved the engine of fuel? thats my question.

No it will not. drilling out the hole, as i stated earlier, will not increase the fuel flow of the pumps. Since the pumps are pumping at the same rate they were before, you will see nothing but a slight drop in fuel pressure which is actually worse off then if you had not modified the system. there is no cheap way to increase fuel flow. you will need larger injectors and a better pump setup or a boost-a-pump to increase the voltage to the pumps to drive them to flow more fuel minimally. Shortcuts are not the answer when fuel is concerned in high horsepower cars.

I'm no expert by any means, which is why my I trust my engine builder/tuner. He's done his fair share of these.

When I was planning my latest upgrades, I knew my stock pump/BAP and 39# injectors were at their limit. Switching to dual GT500 pumps, dual BAPs and 60# injectors were a given. So I asked Adam about the fuel lines and rails, and he said there was no need to replace them. Granted, I wasn't looking to build a 9-sec car (for many reasons), but I was looking for a mid to high 10-sec car. And from what I've seen so far, that will be do-able.

Bottom line, I can't see the fuel lines and rails as any sort of restriction for a 10-sec (or slower) car.

I suppose I should add a qualifier here though.

If a car is not adequately set up for drag racing, it may require a helluva lot more HP to get to the 10s than my car needs. The way mine ran the other night, I'm certain it would lay down a solid high 10-sec run... even on a 91-octane pump gas "street" tune, with only 515-ish to the wheels. But, the car is working well. If another car wasn't working as well... especially from the firewall back... it may need 600+ rwhp to reach the 10s. I can't say for sure how the stock fuel lines and rails would do then, but my gut tells me they would probably be OK.

Id'd say even more fin is running stock rails/lines and he is in the 9's with a real weight car around 3.4-3.5k.

I am not discussing stock pumps or anything like that I am discussing factory fuel lines and rails and such. To many people recommend a fuel system overhaul when apparently it is not needed.

most people do not need to overhaul the rails. usually the lines, but you do not need to drill out the line on the rail either

Jim Bell said he has made 800 rwhp on a 3V with the 2.8H and that was done on stock lines and rails. I asked him his recommendation on a fuel system and he said pumps, injectors, and dual BAP. No need to get all those high dollar rails and lines unless you are making 1000+ hp.

i wholeheartedly agree. I did my rails for 2 reasons. I got a great deal on them and i have room to grow without changing something down the line. I made my 722rwhp on only a 25 shot of juice and 20psi on the blower and that was with the clutch slipping over 4500rpm or so. I'm positive i will get even higher and i know my rails can handle the flow

Hmmm... And I wonder who it was that actually built and tuned that engine, and then made that test. I'll give you one guess...
