The probelm with the FRPP HotRod cams is their inconsistency with gains. Ive seen cars gain 12 HP and Ive seen cars gain 30 HP with them. They do have a great sound but if you want sound and performance then choose something a little better. The BBR cams are awesome, they have great power gains and amazing lopeage and you already have Chris' tune in your car(no brainer decision) , the comp cams are great also with The Mutha Thumpers sounding beastly!!! There are several vendors here with great cam choices that will crush the FRPP cams.

I think a lot of it has to do with the tune. I know the frpp cams have specific instruction regarding timing.

I have put cams in two of my previous 5.0 fox bodies, I build three of them bottom up. Never have really touched the insides of a modular motor, oh I just got done doing a big bore kit and cam swap on my 2004 660 raptor quad. I think I can do it but might need help hear and there. Where do you get the cam bolts?

BBR carries the cam bolts or you can get them from many of the vendors or your local Ford should carry them..about $12-15 each.

Supporting mods go hand in hand with cams so unless you are comparing the same car with the same mods with the Hot Rods/BBR stg 1/Mutha Thumpers/Detorit Rockers you can't make that statement.

Before I went FI I gained 30 hp/3 tq with the HR's/Kooks LT's with a catted H.

The lower the idle the more the HR's will bump but drop it too low and driveability becomes an issue.

I completely agree with you about the gains consistency. Not an inconsistency with the cam. A cam grind is a cam grind. They go out with very tiny variances, but making power with Hot Rod cams is ALL in the VCT on the tuners side. That, of course, among being paired in the right application. Most other cams out there get away with less aggressive VCT, so that's why they consistently make more power, no matter who tunes it.

^ This is another thing to consider. I've got guys that don't get to see the full affect of what the cams are doing for them. They put them in after only having a CAI/Tune and X-pipe, for example. They'll get mediocre gains with a cam. After that, they'll add long tubes, manifold, F/I or whatever, and never really tell what the cams are worth.

If they went back to stock cams at that point, I'd be willing to bet good money that they'd lose alot more than the mediocre numbers they saw previously.

So am I understanding this to say the Hotrods make LESS power than other NSR cams? Just asking for clarity?

I think...not that I am speaking for Chris...is the power gains are in the tune and the tuner.

The HR's were advertised as a plug and play, no tune required to run but they had the caveat that for optimal performance a tune was needed.

Application. Designed as an upgrade for the 2005-10 Mustang GT 4.6L 3V engine the Ford Racing Hot Rod Performance Cams require custom calibration to achieve optimized performance.

Straight from AM's web site..can you read?....see where it says "to achieve optimized performance"?
