Hurst Rattle - in only third gear (?)

Hi Guys - I've spent time trolling through the forums on rattling Hurst shifters and the various methods to quiet the rattle. What I didn't see was whether everyone else's rattle occurred in every gear or just one (as mine is). The shifter is whisper quiet in every gear but third and that's only when I let off the gas (between 4,500 and 2,500 rpms).

While the obvious fix is to never let off the gas, has anyone else observed this same behavior (i.e. rattle in a single gear?).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Moved to chit chat. Talking about the characteristics of a product isn't a technical topic.

At one time I had a Hurst shifter with a 3650. The best advice I can give is to get a MGW or keep your hand on the Hurst to quiet it down. Some people have used a specific grease to quiet it down too.

I put a gob of grease on the metal bearing of the hurst in my 2007 and it never made another peep.

i had the same exact issue with my hurst in 3rd gear too. after awhile, it started making a lot more noise and in every gear. i sprayed some white lithium grease around the base and tightened up the 2 screws and it has been very quiet the for the last 15k miles.

Hi Guys - thx for the advice - I'll try the white lithium grease and see how that works.

Mine is more of a buzz than a rattle. I think it's inherent to the Hurst. I put one of the rubber isolaters between the two parts of the handle, and that helped some. I guess the next step is some lithium grease.
