Edit: forgot to mention I have an 05 GT manual trans.

Hey guys I've searched all over this forum and i only found solutions that always lead to purchasing a tune to solve this issue, but I haven't found any definitive repair that does not require a tune to fix this issue.

I'm wondering if anyone has any information on how to stop my engine from hanging it's idle in between shifts because it makes it exceedingly difficult to Match gears while shifting and it makes for an uncomfortable transition (herky jerky) between gears.

My idle didn't always use to hang, when I first bought it in December 2015 it would only happen about 20% of the time now it's all the time and it's very annoying, can somebody please help?

Clean the maf

Clean the throttle body.

Retest

If problem continues. Well you know what's next.

Thanks justa3v. I did a MAF cleaning Wednesday, guess TB cleaning is next on my todo list.

I hear the TB's are sensitive, do I have to disconnect the battery and do that jumper wire procedure before touching the TB? Or could I just remove the TB without doing all that?

Just diconmect the wires. Remove it from the car. And clean it

Then re install it No need to in hook the battery

Takes a 8mm and a 10mm socket to undo it.

Calibration is off slightly. After cleaning the throttle body, pay close attention when reinstalling the air intake and make sure there are no air leaks anywhere that could be drawing in unmetered air. If you bought the car used then it could easily be something reinstalled improperly before you bought it.

OK that makes sense I'll definitely keep an eye out for leaks and ill fitting rubber gasket.

If it got progressively worse, it might also be the throttle position sensor. Check for frayed/short to ground wires and then check the TPS voltage. Should be between 1.19 and 1.31 volts. If its the wires - repair; if its the TPS - replace.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 30 mins or so and reconnecting? If not I would do that sometimes you can get whacky stuff in the kam and it needs reset.

Ok I'll check that too. I test it while the ignition is on and engine off, correct?

Is there a resistance value to check what the TPS puts out while unplugged?

I had the same problem.

I got in the habit of letting off the gas before I shift instead of when.

Tried a bunch of different stuff but when I changed the tune the problem went away.

Had a similar issue with the 2V I used to own, but accompanied by rough idle and the car dying at clutch-in stopping. Turned out to be a Cam Position sensor. Cheap, quick fix. Could be worth a shot?

How do you test a cam position sensor?

I'd check the basics first. Clean MAF and TB, check for air or vacuum leaks, then possibly have the dealer or trusted mechanic reflash the stock tune. IMO the other possible issues suggested here are extremely long shots based on my limited experience combined with opinions gleaned from my mechanic and my tuner.

I had codes pointing me in that direction, so I didn't troubleshoot it myself. I believe it was a P0340 code?

But Brian is right. My Coyote was rough-idling and dying out of nowhere and it turned out that the drop-in filter had a tear along one of the sides so it wasn't sealed. That little amount of turbulence was enough to cause those issues but not throw a CEL.

I was relieved but also peeved. I had a leak-down test done, had the MAF and TB cleaned and it turned out to be a torn filter. :okay2:

Sounds like a plan.
