true, but that was on a built engine with a supercharger IIRC. And the mac's are 1 3/4" versus most others that were 1 5/8"

I personally have no experience with midlengths, just longtubes. But, on my 06, I dropped .35 and gained 3mph consistantly with stainless works longtubes and a retune. Before, the car only had a CAI and axlebacks.

If you remember that test then look at the numbers again, look at kooks
1 5/8 gains thoughout the rpm range compared to others, the macs with the bigger 1 3/4 only beat the kooks on peak numbers as expected for a supercharged car. The kooks gains are oustanding throughout the range compared to other full longtubes tested. Mid lengths have the top end flow of longtubes and great low-mid of shorties.

Look at the 2v as well, when bassani mid-lengths came out, they blew full longtubes out of the water, not to mention the sound!

I had the kooks headers before i went turbo and it was solid gains throughout the rpm range.

Yeah, this is proven.
MM&FF ran a head to head comparison of nearly a dozen different long tubes on the S197 a couple of years ago and the Kooks and Mac came out on top by a long shot.

I just dug that article up and saw that
I had MAC on my 2005 - loved them $450 new

The car went from 389 to 417 with the install of the Kooks headers, catted X and Magnaflow 3" catback. We did not get a torque reading on the after run because we had an issue with the dyno and it would not pick it up. So we never really got a good comparison and didnt want to show a dyno graph that wasnt complete. A fair statement is that we did pick up 28 RWHP from the installation of the full exhaust system alone. The only other parts on the car at the time were a JDM custom tune and Steeda cold air intake. My father also felt he could squeeze more out of the car but we didnt have the time as he was headed out of town.

Kooks is very well known, at least in the Vette community for producing the best LT headers known to man. The 5.0 already pushing 80 hp / liter is going to require more quality mods to get power out of them than the 4.6 3V did. You get what you pay for and this system is well within range of how much the best of the best headers cost.

or about the same as a non headered car with x-pipe and catback. 28rwhp for headers/x-pipe/catback.

ill just take the catback and x-pipe. not worth the money.

You have any data to back that up?

I think Lethal Performance has a thread about 14 RWHP No Tune Off Road X Pipe for $300 which is ok if you dont want to spend $1,500 dollars.

But if you are like me that like to have the car looking good with the added performance then Kooks or ARH Look good, i imagine they are lighter, and might give some extra HP at the end or for certain applications.

Maybe for street or DD the cheaper X pipe is ok but if you are really looking for the best and get the best then a full header setup will be the best. is the same thing when people ask about the size of the headers, you know, what is the best 1 3/4 or 1 7/8. I always see the answer to be that if you are not pushing more than 800 HP then you dont need bigger than 1 3/4 so it might be the same with the X O/R and full set headers.
