W/4k on the odo, I'm about ready to jump into the aftermarket world. I've tried to be diligent in my research, read loads of pages of web advice, and spoken w/some great people, getting some solid advice about a number of topics. Some of it has been helpful, some confusing, but I think I've nailed down want I want to do w/one exception. It's all just bolt-on stuff cuz my '14 GT W/the Track Pack is my daily driver. It'll never be tracked in any way, shape or form- not street racing, 1/4 miles, auto-cross- nothing.

The topic of this particular thread, tho, is about the argument between staying w/the OEM airbox or going w/an open air CAI from one of the aftermarket manufacturers; no matter the decision, a proper dyno tune is coming too.

I've gotten a lot of mixed info regarding this topic. Some swear by the OEM box, perhaps adding a K&N filter only, others swearing by the open air CAI. I don't see a lot of internet info about folks keeping the OEM box & doing a dyno (or canned tune.) Most threads belong in the aftermarket CAI + dyno tune, where they're generally seeing about 35 RWHP gains and an equal amount of torque. The dyno dude I spoke w/today seemed to echo those results based on the work he's done w/Stangs.

For once, it ain't about the $$ but I do have some concerns w/the open air CAI, especially in the SoFla rainy season. The only aftermarket manufacturers I've seen address the water issue (coming in from the heat extractor hood vents) has been Steeda and C&L. W/the OEM box, the water will never be an issue.

So, anybody care to offer their thoughts?

Stock airbox, stock filter. Drop ins have been proven to gain nothing, or actually lose. The stock CAI is very good, my tuner Mike Rousch even did back to back tests and gained nothing with an aftermarket CAI. On a big power car it may gain a few ponies. IMO the $300 can be better spent elsewhere.

Hahaha. You guys made my night with this one. I can't believe after all these years, people are post CAI questions for these (or any) cars.

Most of your huge 30 HP gain claims are from the companies dynoing the car on regular 87 octane. Then re running the car with the new part and tuning it for 93 octane and showing there gains.

I had asked this same question to my tuner, RevAuto and he said on the tune required intakes he typically gains 10-13 or so hp out of em.

You're the idiot who can't figure out that CAIs provide no benefit over the stock unit. Idiot. Stop being a cry baby.
