That sucks, and I've been there. I see my 65 about once a year and wrench on it for a couple days till I have to leave and go back to where I'm stationed.

Depending on how much is left in the budget, I'll be doing AiM MXL2 or the new MXG. Hooks directly into the ECU to pull info, has onboard GPS for speed, and on track locations, data logging, etc.

The last thing I am doing before I put the car in storage is relocating the Power Distribution Box, to clean up the engine bay and make room for future turbos. I also ended up pulling some unneeded circuits out of it, and may merge the PDB from the Control pack into it. So this is basically a wire tuck for those who are like :wtf1:

Basically there are two directions the wires go coming out of the PDB: back to the interior fuse panel, and forward into the body harness that runs across the radiator.

I pulled the factory loom apart and traced all the wires that run back to the interior fuse panel. Thankfully Ford was nice and made these terminate into easily removable plugs. Some go to the PDB and others go right to the body wiring loom, which don't need ot be modified.

I shortened the wiring that ran from the PDB to the interior fuse panel:

Next step was to extend the wiring running from the PDB into the body harness. I marked each wire, and cut the box out of the car:

Here you can see the PDB, with shortened harness that will be connected to the interior fuse panel:

Wiring being extended:

PDB with extended wiring ready to go into its new home:

I decided to install it in place of the pass airbag. the car has COBRA racing seats and harnesses, so its just dead weight. I had to trim the bottom half of the box, but other then that it fit great:

I then ran the wiring forward and spliced it back into harness. I ended up pulling the harness up out from infront of the radiator, to give me some more room to work.

Rewrapped the harness just like it came from the factory:

Much better!

I'll be mounting the ECU behind the fender, and modifiing the Coyote/control pack harness to fit perfectly.

Wow that's a lot of wires there!
Nice work. Not everyone understands the time it takes to modify harnesses correctly. It's very time consuming. Lots of soldering and heat shrinking going on LOL

Thanks guys for the good words.

I also discovered that Ford revised the connector for the 4 VCT solenoids. Apparently the new ones are more durable and last longer in high heat/stress environments. Also, the timing cover I have will not work with the Power by the Hour bracket kit I purchased, so adding to the worklist will be installing a new timing cover and 4 upgraded VCT solenoids to match my Boss 302 engine harness when I come back.

Did you go with the Boss 302 R/S racing harness?

I just found I was subscribed to this thread. I wonder what went down. Edit: still in play, few newer posts here and there.
