Doing cams b/c they sound badass is about as 16 yr old as you can get. To be honest some cams sound good in these cars but some sounds like crap IMO. From the ton of stuff i have read cams are an ok mod in stick cars but not a good mod in an auto unless you have a big converter.

Drive-ability in my auto was not hampered OTHER than acceleration being noticeably weaker. I was able to set both of my idles to 525 rpms without issue with my bama tune (AC on or off). I could idle through parking lots with minimal bucking (I did like the bucking though). The issue for me was power did not come on until darn near 4k rpm so regular street driving was bad.

I just bought Mutha Thumpr cams lol. I was looking at the on3 kit, but all I kept thinking was that I would be opening up pandora's box. So I'll just do the cams, enjoy the sound/little more power and be done with it.

I wish you luck. What gears do you currently have?

Thanks. 4.10's and my car is a manual, so I think it will be fine in traffic.

That was another reason I didn't go with the on3, I would have had to pay to have the 3.31's put back in (and get a fuel system, etc ,etc). That and my car is way to low for the on3 kit, which would leave me with the only option of going with a supercharger. I'm just not willing to throw down 5k on a supercharger to make 4XX whp when I have a sportbike in the garage.

The only things i regret are my steeda shorties and the diablo sport tuner I originally bought with my jlt because most tuners use sct ( most ford tuners anyway) I've got a set of jba longtubes getting ready to go innow and a new tuner from bbr with their custom tune which I love and I love my cams

My procharger.... Only because I bought the P1SC. Then blew my motor before it was done tuning and now I had a fully build block with a little P1CS. Wish I built to block first and got an F1R to begin with and I would never of had to do it all over again for more power.

comp cams stage II supercharger grind #127650 they were a pain in the ass to tune and they kept on breaking roller rockers the whole time, which resulted in replacing 3 pistons 1 head and few valves

I agree. Sometimes I regret all of the mods.

Since the engine is out, I have thought about installing a stock 3V and trading it in on a new Boss 302. Then sell the fresh 750whp engine and Procharger with a tune for $7,500.00.

I'm thinking the same thing as you. Just put a new motor and having so many issues :chainsaw:

Regrets:
1) Not doing FI first. I have spent more than that on my car and it makes 295rwhp.
2) Cervini Window Louvers - POS - they came off 3 times, now sit in the garage.
3) BBK longtubes - picked up 5rwhp. (That was worth $1K!!)(They do sound good though and am hoping they help more when I finally get FI)
4) MGP caliper Covers - worst $180 bucks I have put into the car.

I must say that reading cautionary tales on this site has been a great help to me in the past and protected me from making impulsive mistakes. That's also why I decided to go with FI right off the bat. I'd be rolling with my blower right now if I wasn't scammed, but now I'm back on track and waiting patiently for my Saleen 6.5.

I kinda regret the entire car. I should've saved up more money and got a used gt500 instead. Then swap a whipple in after payoff.

This car has been fun but it needs a ton of expensive work to build it for 500+.

I respect the honestly about swapping cams, that's rare.

99.9% of S197 owners have no good reason to swap cams. Getting attention because of the idle is not a good reason.

I thought about that instead of the 5.0, but had a lot of fears and doubts. A GT500 is too rare for me to own right now. I'd feel bad putting 15k miles on it and be scared of parking it in the hardware, grocery, and theater parking lots. Cars like that aren't supposed to be DD's unless you've got money to blow.

The new 5.0 will definitely hold me over for some time. I'm still doing some research to see what the first mods are. After my 05, I know FI is the way to go, but I don't want nearly 600hp, that's actually frightening to me (since that's double what i just had). 450rwhp would have been fine in my 05, but I didn't want to put another $8k into it for an SC, gauges, and dyno tune. I'm pretty sure the new GT's can get to 425rwhp pretty easily and that should hold me over for quite some time. Honestly, its holding me over just fine right now. I'm 50/50 on how smooth/soft the gear shifts are and I'm curious how much MPG would improve with a mail order tune.
