H pipes sound better with chambered mufflers, x pipes sound better with straight through design mufflers. I have an h pipe with Corsas and well it has alot of trumpeting/popping. I will be switching to longtubes and an x pipe in the very near future.

and I'm just the opposite, I think H pipes sound better with stingers and X pipes need a chambered muffler. There's an ass for every seat we used to say in the car bizness. One thing for sure is there's no accounting for taste. Listen to lots of set ups, pick which one you like best.

I hate to say it but i totally agree with you. We are gonna get flamed for this.

A catted X pipe and flows are where it is at. W/o the cats it can get a lil tinny, but with them it is money:thumb:

X for maximum potential power, H for best "traditional musclecar" sound.

HOWEVER, MOST of these so called "X" pipes, ARENT a TRUE X, they are just a siamesed midpipe.

Dr Gas is the ONLY TRUE X Im aware of:

If that's the Dr Gas then that is NOT a "true" x-pipe either. If we're gonna split hairs, then a true x-pipe should be mold formed into the X, not welded and then smoothed out with grinded welds (like most are, for cost purposes).

Magnaflow has a "true" x pipe:

Yeah that's a Dr. Gas set-up.

I agree with you though about it all.

This^

I had MRT H and Flows on my 04 GT sounded mean as hell. Switched to Borlas, still sounded really mean, but had more trumpeting. My 07GT has Borlas and a Magnaflow X and i love the sound

What? I always heard x pipe with straight through mufflers sounds raspy with no tone. How about h pipe with straight throughs?

I think we need to stop generalizing all mufflers as "straight through" or "chambered". Sure, there might be some correlation with sound and the type of crossover pipe used but it won't be true for everything. For example, Corsa's are straight-through just like Stingers but they sound very different.

At the end of the day, it's a matter of opinion.

I have stingers + O/R H + resonators and it sounds amazing. No rasp and cut the drone of the O/R H + Stinger combo way down

I have the BBK LTs with hi flow catted X and Roush Stingers. It sounds good. I'm sure you'll be happy with the H pipe, just might have to deal with a little more drone.
