I will say this, I would never pay over $1,000 for long tubes (mofo's with kooks are crazy, they are metal pipes FFS.) the prices on LT's for 5.0's are just nuts I honestly think people are getting ripped off paying 1,200-1,500+ for LT's.

That being said I paid $600 with a $40 rebate for pypes long tubes, they sound great and I can really feel the car pulling up top. I can now say I am done modding the car and it's full bolt on's. If I gained a mere 15whp from it I am still happy. Car is done!

I come from a racing background, so I tend to look at things a little differently. Performance/$$$ is usually my first consideration. I don’t do much because it sounds/looks better.

I personally think they are a PITA. I wouldn’t put some on unless I had a built shortblock and a blower and looking to make 550+.

They are a pain to put on.

They are a pain to work around once on (this is probably the biggest reason).

They don’t sound that much better.

They add a lot of heat to the engine compartment which contributes to heat soak and higher IAT’s.

They don’t make much power vs. cost/PITA factor.

I see where you're coming from, but saying they don't sound that much better is an opinion, to me they do sound that much better.

Also I'm pretty sure that the stainless steel headers help retain heat better and help it to pass out through the exhaust as opposed to keeping heat in the engine bay. Is that incorrect?

And again on the PITA factor, working on my car and turning wrenches is a hobby, therefore I enjoy doing it. Yea it was a pain, but I had fun going it.

I only paid $820 shipped to my door for a brand new (new from vendor not new in box from someone that decided they no longer want them) for stainless works (technically stainless power) LT's.

All in all I love them and would do it again. I'm now full bolt-on minus the throttle body which I don't plan on changing because a PD blower is in the near-ish future.

I agree, to each their own. If the sound makes you/someone happy by all means run em. This whole car thing is about being happy right? If pink fuzzy rims make you happy, run pink fuzzy rims and don’t let anyone tell you that you are wrong.:thumb:

I've tested the temps. Headers, even ceramic coated ones dump a LOT more heat into the engine bay. My wrapped headers even put out more heat than manifolds. If I were to do it again I would ceramic coat the headers then wrap them.

I enjoy it too, I had better, its what I do 50-70hrs a week. But there is just some stuff that drives me nuts. And headers are one of them.

Headers are not a one size fits all thing. Some people gotta have them, some people could care less and others don't want them at all. And all three people are right in their own way.:beerdrink:

Im good with the stock headers minus the rust. Looks f'n ugly. Stock exhaust plus boomtubes sounds great to me.

Never again. 4 days, heat exhaustion, an absurd number of trips to the hardware store, multiple mid pipes because of poor fab work, scraping, $600 turned into $1200, fucked up my steering column, almost got fired from work, constant leaks, had to buy another axle-back; fuck headers. They did sound good, but never again unless the engine is out of the car.

I did learn about ratcheting wrenches though. Those are awesome.

Only annoying part I had was reaching for the starter other than that it was just tedious

What brand did you go with?

Bought some used Dynatechs off ebay. It was a good deal; ~$600 to the house. Catted X pipe. Had seen where Don_W ran them and thought it would be ok (save for the engine exploding deal), and I wasn't running boost so everything should be all good.

Install was just horrible, and I had done a couple months worth of research. Two biggest issues were lack of tools and lack of help. The heat was kicking my ass too. Actually got exhaustion at one point and had to stop.

Numerous issues (not necessarily with the headers themselves) after the install just compounded it. It's the one mod I refuse to do ever again.
