Looks simliar to my from a few years ago. To much power for a stock 3V shortblock.

And all the parts we were able to remove without taking anything apart.

if he had run some seafoam through the thing, he wouldn't have needed a new long block. Looks like most of those parts would have come out with the next oil change,

Good point, well I finally caught up with him today, and he did pick up another long block and installed it already, and brought the car to a local shop to tune it this time. However there's some confusion related to the HPX MAF that reportedly came with the kit vs having to buy a MAFiA as well as fuel system issues before the shop will even attempt to try to tune that car. They will have to figure that shit out, I again recommended LITO so we shall see, I think he's pretty much tapped out of funding now though, lol. I'll see if I can maybe get some more pics this weekend of the carnage, and post them up.

HPX should support more than enough airflow without the need for a MAFia

The HPX maf can read more air flow than the ecu is capable of recognizing. You have to scale the tune. The mafia extends the range when its pegged the voltage, which he hasn't done. If the tuner he is using doesn't know that he needs to go to a different tuner. At 500 wheel I'm not even close to pegging the HPX maf and its in a 3" tube.

This thread delivers.

^^For sure! Well I found out a little more info and have an update. He got the new motor in and towed it to a local shop that properly tuned it on Saturday. With a very conservative tune and 7 lbs it made 430 rwhp. So far so good with that. Now here's the fun stuff, the massive failure was due to a combination of things, namely there was a Diablo N/A tune installed with 36 degrees of timing!! ..and to top that off the WG wasn't properly installed (vacuum lines not connected to the proper ports) so the thing made full boost with 36 degrees of timing all the while on 87 octane! I don't think I could have thought of any worse scenario to grenade a motor. Good stuff!

That is exactly how I would have tuned it.....when you need to remove the pistons without disassembly. :boobies: :chainsaw:

Reads like a how-to on grenading a motor.
