Will there will be a run on S197 cars shortly?

I had a black 05 V6 and it was impossible to keep clean. I washed it quite often and it looked good for a day or two maybe lol I'm glad my GT is not black lol

I still try to keep it clean (black car, outside, yeah right.) but man, letting go of having to keep it immaculate or preserved made it easier to just focus on enjoying it.
This ^^^

My '08 - an always-outdoor black car - cleans up well enough with an occasional wash and at most a couple times a year waxing. It's been clay-barred exactly once, for a very specific reason (a can of spray paint that exploded in another part of the yard was involved).

I enjoy cars for the driving, even if it's just for around-town errand runs. But whole-car detailing that goes beyond a simple washing, a rare waxing, and the removal of bird droppings as I notice them is just too much work for too little reward. Obsessing over minor flaws that you have to get up close to see . . . not my thing at all.

That said, it's not in me to buy a boring POS 'beater' for daily use. Any car we get is with the expectations of serving the DD function and having to live outdoors.

How does it stay clean for 5 days?? 5 minutes maybe! roflmao
There's 'clean enough', and there's clean to the point of obsesssion.

Pollen season excepted, 'clean enough' can last a good bit longer than 5 days. Long as it cleans up this good (probably taken two or three days post-wash) I'm good. Even with a little brake dust remaining in the hard-to-get places on the wheels (after all, it is a weenie track car).

Boring daily beater...lol
V8, rear wheel drive, trailer hitch for jetskis, crown vic/grand marquis. Has its use, they are cheap, and can still do donuts if I desire. We are on the 3rd one (86,98,05) and serves a purpose. Not too bad on gas either. Just thought Id share.
Ps: no trailer hitch for the stang allowed!

.... The people who do baby them and keep the miles down are only worried about resale value and plan to trade the car to the 2nd owner who will do as I have.
It's been my experience that it's a bad idea to paint with such a broad brush.
In fact, I plan to do exactly the opposite of your comment.

I worked long and hard (twenty plus years) to raise 5 kids. I didn't have the choice but to drive beater cars as my everyday car. Owning a second "play" car was a laughable idea.

I bought a 2010 GT with 24,540 miles on the clock last summer. I bought it to be my everyday driver (just as you implied), but I just couldn't do it. It took too much sacrifice through the years to treat this as just another car, because for me it isn't just another car. We now have the ability to have a "play" car so we decided to keep our F-150 with 316,000 miles and continue driving it as my everyday transportation.

I'm not keeping the miles low for the next owner... Eff that. I'm keeping them low for me! I plan on keeping this car a long time and want to make sure I can enjoy it as much in the future as I as do today.

Good luck with the above, I have a 14 I bought new and beat the snot out of it almost daily. It's a 5.0 coyote car, I have 100k miles on it and drive the shit out of it. Most people don't buy these cars to put in and only drive occasionally. I don't care because I'm not selling my car anyway I plan to run it till it blows up then build a new engine. I just want to offer some insight to those of us who buy them new and keep them. The people who do baby them and keep the miles down are only worried about resale value and plan to trade the car to the 2nd owner who will do as I have.

Well I just happen to be one of those people who keeps the miles down on his car, but not for the purpose of being worried about resale value when planning to trade the car in for the next owner. My reasons for keeping the miles down are just the opposite. First off, I have no intentions whatsoever of ever selling my car, as I plan on enjoying it for as long as I possibly can until I'm physically no longer able to drive it. When that time finally arrives? the car will then be passed down to my nephew who will hopefully keep it in the family.

My car is also not a DD and gets driven only during the spring, summer and early fall seasons at car cruise-in events and on occasional road trips. Other than that, it always stays garage kept. That being said, I enjoy taking pride in keeping my car as nice as I possible can for myself in addition for wanting to keep the car within the family!

My Dad calls this "keeping it nice for the next guy".

Well I call it "keeping it nice for myself and for also keeping it within the family"

Why not "keeping it nice for yourself"?
I try to keep my shit nice for me! :)

Agreed exactly 100% spot on

I previous owned 2 Fox body Mustangs that were Black. They were absolutely stunning when clean, but as soon they get taken onto the highway, they look as though they were never washed by the time you arrive back home. Needless to say, those were the last Black cars I ever owned :roflmao:

Same here and haven't looked back ever since lol.

You are the minority, most will want to keep it nice for the next guy mainly so they get money out of it. For me I just finished restoring a 72 GMC truck full frame off. I thought of just getting a beater car but when I add up the expense it isn't worth it. I feel when I wear out the drive train I can upgrade it. When something breaks I'll upgrade it. I'm thinking of repainting it because I have a bunch of rock chips. The fact is I enjoy driving the car and I didn't pay almost 40k, 30K for the car, then supercharger, wheels tires, a few other small things, to have it sit in the garage. To each his own but I plan on driving the hell out of and enjoying I know I am also the minority in that most will just use them up and throw them away. An interesting point I had seen though on hemi cars was that there were a lot of pristine cars because people blew them up new and stashed them in the garage planning to fix it and never did. I can see that happening with the 5.0 cars that get too crazy with forced induction. There are a lot of people pushing 800whp out of the first gen coyotes and typically blowing the oil pump gears. With a replacement engine at 7K I can see some sitting waiting for a future Richard Rawlings to come along and fix it. Enjoy your cars.

Having had daily driven Mustangs, trophies awards Mustangs, and track prepped Mustangs… I’ve enjoyed the DD mustang most. Track mustang always needs to be dialed in or something is breaking / worn out. And show car, you either gotta trailer it or stress about everything in terms of paint prep and what if’s.

I’ve noticed now that V6 late model S197s have gone up in price compared to when I got mine in 2019. In comparison, keep in mind I’m in Toronto, my 2014 V6 MCA was $20k with 13000 kms on it, clean car no accident. There was another Mustang exactly like mine at another dealership selling for $21k with 43000 kms on it at the same time with 1 accident.

Now I’m seeing prices have gone up. A coupe now with higher mileage is more $$$. Private or dealer. V6 Convertibles seem even higher priced to the point where you can buy a GT Coupe instead.

How much is that because it's an S197 vs the used car market is just going up though? I've heard that with all the semiconductor shortages on new cars, people are buying more used, which is driving up prices.

I'm not entirely surprised that the later-year sixxers are getting a little love - they're on par with the earlier 4.6 HP-wise (300-ish really isn't a bad place for a true DD or even an occasional autocross or HPDE car to be sitting at). Just a bit less torque in exchange for higher rpm capability, which puts a little more on the driver to get the most out of it (absolutely a good thing).

Yeah... You have no idea how bad I want that lol

I saw that car on Craiglist back in February in Mobile, AL and contacted the owner to go and see it. Long story short, I couldn't make it in time before they sold it. The original owner wanted $18K and it sold for $25k? They made a decent profit on that one. I'm glad I didn't go see it now because all that corrosion on the aluminum and rust on the axle would have turned me off on it.

Many of these used cars were not loved by their 5 owners. A 2012 $47,500 Mustang GT500 owned by 5 separate guys in New Jersey. Picture was taken several days ago.

Newbie Mustang owner here. Picking up our 2007 Premium convertible V6 auto Saturday. I have been retired for a month. Dream car is 1967 Chevy Nova. Do not want to pay $50k for one. Discussed with my wife - of 39 years - and decided on what I now know is a 5th generation S197 Mustang. I have owned exactly two Fords in my life. My first new car was a 1976 Mustang II Mach I V6 5-speed, and now this one. So be warned: I may ask some simple questions!

Great thread, I never worry about the longevity of cars, ICE's are being banned in my country in under 15 years, I expect I'll be made to turn my Mustang and pickup in for recycling. Fine with me, I'll just read books and hike instead.

Too many problems with the 05-09 models, they are underpowered too. The 13/14s still are the best looking s197s and are the last years that Mustangs actually looked like Mustangs.

Outright banned, or just no new ICE cars?
