What about the shifting...? I don't bounce off the limiter, but I have tapped it when spinning the tires on a low gear.

I'd like to figure out the shifting...
Raise it to where you will not touch it. You are better off reving the motor higher then you would like then hitting the rev limiter/ taking the fuel away from the car.

How are your transitions when shifting...are they smooth or does power drop off pretty hard?

Are you working with Lito on this? He can answer all the tuning questions you may have. On my car, I don't lose any power when shifting but I have a 4R70W like Billy does but to the computer it thinks we have a manual trans. The difference is that we don't take the load off the engine when we shift unlike a manual trans where you have to press the clutch.

Yep, spoke with Lito. He says its tune. We just need to adjust!! :)

I have another question!!!

What oil pressures are you built guys experiencing/targeting...?

I think I may be running a little high or does the oil pump control max oil pressure with some kind of pressure relief?

Currently I am experiencing the following:
At cold start up -
90-95 PSI at 2,000 RPM
80-85 at 1,000 RPM

Operating Temp -
45-50 PSI at 1,000 RPM
70-75 PSI at 2,000 RPM

I am currently running Driven BR40 which is a 40 weight oil. Since my motor is broken in, my builder is has supplied me with Driven XP9 racing oil; which is a 10W-40 type weight.

I am not sure about running a "racing oil" in a street car. I have been told in the past by Red Line and Amsoil that they do not recommend a racing oil in a street car, event if the street car is a weekend race car.

So I have sent an email to Joe Gibbs/Driven... Lets see what they say.

Update:

So after some lengthy conversations with the Joe Gibbs/Driven fluids engineer, they recommended the DT40 which is a 5W-40.

Surprisingly, they said if I participated in a two day track day and/or a full day of road racing, that I should change my oil to the XP 9 for that track event. Then go back to the DT40.

What the!!!??

Do you guys know how much that XP 9 costs!!?? $17 a bottle!! I got it for $14.86, but still...DAMN!! Thats 8 quarts roughly $120 for a two day use or 500 miles which ever comes first.

Then don't forget you have to replace your daily oil which is $11 a bottle; $90 right there.

Do exotic car owners go through this...? I must imagine owning a Ferrari or some exotic car must be worse...

They did say DT40 will be OK for the occasional drag race, autocross, and single track day.

Man, just like brake pads and tires, there isn't one thats good for everything; you got your daily street and track pads/tires. sigh Now add oil...

Those oil pressures look dead on for what I usually see with my gt500 pump, at idle when warm mine drops to around 20psi.

I think you have a tendency to over analyze things? Lol....

I usually change my oil before a track event, but I don't change back. I use the same Valvoline VR1 10w-30 all year round, change it around 2500 miles.

Paul, I'm curious as to how the top end looks. Have you had the chance to look at the cam journals since running with these pressures?

I'm at those pressures as well and my cam journals look fine. Don't know if the vct delete plates have anything to do with it.

I've always had these pressures since going to gt500 pump, my last rebuild I had the heads torn down and no issues, would have been on the gt500 pump about 2 years at that point.

Not just the pump but the pump and thicker oil. I suppose that you being in FL helps with the 10w portion. You know the parameters, increase pressure, decrease flow as long as the clearance is the same. With that in mind I wonder how much makes it to the top since it's the last thing in the flow path. Didn't you run xw-40 at one time?

Don't tell Gerald but I do wonder what 10w-40 will do in this climate. We are in the last throws of summer right now with 80's predicted for the weekend (that's hot around here). Very soon it will be mid 40's for the high on warm days.

Glad to see that everything is working Gerald. Have fun with the car, summers almost gone.

You're at the beach.
Kwit'cher bitchin!

lol I didn't have a choice where I was raised, all I know is I can't stand it. It's not so much the heat it's the humidity.

Let's not talk about the heat here fellas. Y'all will loose the race.

But doesn't Texas rarely have any high humidity? A buddy of mine who's stationed in NC now, was born and raised down there said it would get hot, but not have near the amount of humidity as the east coast did. If I could go outside and my shirt not stick to me 3 minutes into whatever I was doing I would be fine

i wish i could find a chart or something that would show the equal viscosity at different temps, 10w is suppose to be good down to -20*, my normal start up is probably between 85-95* so id like to know just what viscosity it is at in those temps.

If so, did you change your spring from the GT pump into the GT500 pump?

Sounds like a good time to ask them when they're going to sponsor your car then, lol!

I can hang with the heat & humidity race (Cape Coral, FL), low 90's here every day for months, humidity not far from there either! I'm with Beachmonkey, ready for it to cool off!
