Your smurf car looks great, John.

You could build a Big Bore standard stroke for around $5000. That includes the block, rods, pistons, frpp cnc heads, gaskets, and machining. With a bore of 3.701 and stroke of 3.543 it would be oversquare which helps to unshroud the valves and provide better airflow for the motor. It also gives a displacement of 304 cubic inches.
It doesn't follow your stock motor wish but it should have enough power to beat a Coyote with all else being equal like tires, etc. Combine it with 4.10 or 4.56 gears and you would have a fast na 3v. The iron block adds about 70lbs.
Man the coyotes are scary. Ive raced one and he was bone stock from a dig to 80 I had him by about 1 to maybe 1.5 car lengths and Ive got quite a few bolt ons.
For that price I might just get a Zex kit and hope he never gets boosted. Could that kind of build still retain stock-ish drive ability? I was looking around at MMR and their long blocks seem to be pretty potent.
What all do you have?
I don't believe an N/A 3V being your average run of the mill car will be able to beat a Stock 5.0. Unless you are Matt D with a completely gutted car, extreme gearing, slicks/skinnies and every bolt-on imaginable with Cams, that race will not be in your favor.
As my 5.0 sits right now, I would love to race a modded/well set-up Blown 3V. I feel I could beat one straight up. I've also had 2 Blown GT's (07 GT Auto and 05 GT manual). My 05 made 456 RWHP on 8 PSI, full exhaust, suspension, gears, good tires, aggressive tune, etc. My 5.0 feels a lot faster and pulls a lot harder than my 3V did, ESPECIALLY up top. The 3V is a good drag car/light-to-light car, but, hitting triple digits, the 5.0 has a large advantage and will keep pulling.
What gear and trans are you running?
6 Speed, 3.73's, courtesy of the Track pack.
Grabber Mishri and I were within a tenth of each other with similar weather. MPH was also right about even IIRC.
Mine:
2006, 8psi kenne bell, kb tune, 1 pc driveshaft, 4.10
Mishri:
2011, boss mani, offroad midpipe, 4.10, email tune, cai
Gearing a HUGE part here. A MT-82 is geared a LOT shorter than a TR-3650 (or a M6 vs a 5R55S). Like to equal out the gearing of a Coyote/MT82 with 3.73's you would need to run 4.56's behind a 3v/TR3650.
