alright my bday is comming up and i'm trying to decide between doing either and aftermarket intake or the detroit rocker N/A cams.

first would you recommend going with intake or cams first? i plan on going F/I sometime in the future, plans are either procharger or turbo.

which intake would you recommend? the c&l or the FRPP? the FRPP is cheaper but i really don't know much of what the difference is between the two.

Does anyone have the Detroit Rocker N/A's on an F/I car? i just wondered how well the N/A cams work with F/I

thanks for any help!

Intake will not help you unless you have F.I. already or something.
You need serious power for the stock intake not to have plenty of flow.

I would DEFINITELY do cams. No question about it.
BTW. the Detroit Rockers also come in a blower version for supercharged cars.
So if you ARE gonna go F.I. you could do that first THEN get the Detroit Rocker Blower cams.

The regular Detroit Rockers will work with F.I. but the blower cams will provide a bit more power.

I actually had the Ford Racing Hot Rod Cams on mine.
I liked the sound better than the Rockers and I got just as much power and trq.

I actually gained 40RWHP with cams and long tubes on my 06GT.
With the tune I got I also did NOT lose any trq. I actually gained trq even on the low end because of the tune.

I WOULD suggest getting long tubes with cams. They provide more breathing room and make the cams get the most power they can out of them.

Alright so forget the intake, I thought about doing LTs but then if I decide to go turbo they are useless..

Hot rods are just a direct swap from Stock cams correct?

Yes. Though technically, any cam made for your motor is (assumably) going to be a direct swap for your stock cams. I mean, that's what they designed it for.

No, you do not need to switch springs for the Hot Rods.

hot rods are NOT a turbo cam. If you think you might go turbo stick with stock cams, or get f/i cams. If you're gonna get a centri, then f/i or n/a cams will be fine. I actually think my vortech likes my n/a cams better than an f/i cam comparing other peoples dyno sheets.

i don't wanna do longtubes as i might go turbo haha

man i really want some lope (=

how bad would the hot rods be with a turbo? the turbo is not set in stone as of yet just a maybe because i could piece together a turbo kit as a go where as i can't do that if i decide to go supercharged

I understand you want a cam with some lope, but why on earth would you even consider dropping all that money on a setup that is ill fitted for each other. You know you have the wrong idea when you are talking about several thousands of dollars you are about to spend and then have to ask how bad will the setup be.

I have hotrods and I love them, but when I got them, I had pretty much decided I was staying the NA route. If you are sure you are going to go F/I, don't even consider the hotrods especially for a turbo.

I don't regret buying my cams, they are awesome and I love them but if I knew earlier I would be going F/I at some point I would not have bought them. In the end, do what makes you happy, just know that you may regret buying things that don't compliment each other later. Give some good thought about getting some F/I grind cams now, there are lots of owners that have had good power increases with them even before they get their supercharger or turbo.

Think about timing your purchase right also. There are a lot of places that offer specials, especially around Christmas time and you can save yourself a lot of money buying from the right place at the right time.

Just a thought to think about since your in college. I myself is in college and really wanted to go th FI direction but clearly you have trouble affording these things when your in school time. When you have any kind of force induction your on borrowed time. Will you be able to afford to rebuild your engine? Especially if it happens durring a semester? If I were you I would go the N/a route and then later on if that is not enough get some nitrous. Its cheap and not wearing on your motor all the time. Just an Idea.

thought about that, still shooting for f/i though, if something goes through the school year i have another vehicle that i could drive till i had money to rebuild, N/A is wayyyy to expensive for the power you get..

So... hot rods + boost = no good? Even with a whipple/saleen or other PD blower?

It's more turbo that's a no go with hotrods. A pd or centri blower won't really be hurt by them... They just won't perform near as well as a cam made for f/I.

If you must spend some money, then get you some delete plates. They are going to benefit you on a centri or turbo. Also if your quick on the draw you can get a used set on here for around $100.Then put the rest of the money in a fi fund.

Not that I don't believe you, I do. But can someone explain why this is?

Common miss conception, only thing specific about turbo cams really is they benefit fromm less exhuast duration and lift compared to the intake side which is different from a supercharger as it doesnt use the exhuast so it beneifts from more exhuast lift and duration to evacuate the cylinders.

They arent good or optimal for boost in general. Do people use them, sure, can you tune around them, yeah, do they sound cool, yeah, will they make a little more peak power, yeah since there is increased lift, is it a good idea, no imho.

See the cam tech thread in the tech section.

In short hot rods have too tight of an lsa (110) for anything other than na imho. One of the tightest lsa cams you can get for our cars(besides thumpers 109). Lots of open valve overlap down low to make sound and increased closed valve overlap in the midrange which restricts flow. The increased lift is what allows them to make power up top. I would go no lower than 113-114 lsa for pd blower. Also the "safe: max lift for stock valve springs as tested by comp is around .450. Hot rods have .472 so your already increasing the stress on the valve springs to get that lift, now add boost and your compounding the stress and increasing fatigue of the valve springs even more, under boost the valve springs have to overcome that pressure in the intake and cylinder to open and close the valves.

I was told by my tuner as well that the HR cams+FI=not good so I put the stock cams back in.
