Okay, so I installed the new degree wheel with the comp crank sprocket and the trick flow adjustable lifters and checked it again. All is well! I must say the Comp crank sprocket is a MUST! It made it much easier to keep the motor on TDC while moving the degree wheel.

I am happy to report a ICL of 108*. It was very easy after I had the correct lifters (lash adjusters) to do the job.

First I installed the timing chains on the marks using the TF crank gears set at 6* retard and rotated the motor counter clockwise 20 deg. then I in
stalled the piston stop I made. Next I rotated the motor clock wise till I hit the stop and noted the deg. then I rotated the motor counter clockwise till it hit the stop again and noted that reading. Then I added both numbers and divided by two. That gave me the setting for TDC. Then I loosened the Comp crank sprocket and rotated the wheel to 0*.

The copper wire used for the pointer is hard to see in the pics but you will find it.

Now I am at TDC

Then I rotated the motor clockwise till I found max intake lift and set the dial gauge to .000.

Then I rotated the motor counter clockwise to .050 and noted that reading at 71*.

Then I rotated the motor clockwise past .000 then on to .050 on the closing side and noted that reading at 145*

Then I added the two numbers. 71+145=216 then divided that number by two and that came to 108. So, the cams are set at a 108* ICL (intake center line) right where we want it.

Let me know if you have any cylinder head leaks. Not to frighten but I had about an hour sit down with my machinist today about doing the o ring kit. They used to use that tool about 20 years ago and had several heads leak as a result. I will draw a diagram later but this why they now only use the tool posted below.. sucks cause he does not have the plate and that sucker is going to run me almost $600.

Basically the plate allows you to mirror the head (receiver groove). With this you groove the head and block

After several months of research on this. it seems that a heat cycle and retorque is a must on this setup. I guess we will find out in a few weeks!

Cool let me know how it goes. I had them order the receiver plate. If you wind up wanting to use it let me know

Now that is really different from the old tool.

Yea, working 12 12s then two days off and one of those is used to load up at the shop (2hrs form the house) for the next trip. Not much time to do anything right now and it will be about the same for the next 6-8 weeks. Going to have to tune in the heat and make some Fall passes this year it looks like. Last thing on my mind when I go home right now is my car.
