Are you sure you can still register that car as a mustang with all that custom work on it!

It’s funny you say that. The car has gotten to the point where I am terrified of crashing it.

I come from a motorcycle roadrace background. Every race bike I have ever built I built knowing that at some point it was going to get wadded up. So when I built one I didn’t do much custom stuff at all. “Bolt-ons” were the way to go. Easily replaced/fixed. And I never worried about destroying one (aside from having to replace it of course). Until recently if I wadded the blue car up I would have just picked up a new chassis and transferred all the go fast stuff over. Now the chassis is so custom that is not an option. I’m not scared of an actual crash, I’ve bounced down the track at 180mph+ a few times, its not that bad. But I am a little gun shy about wadding the car up now. Which sucks because I feel like I have to hold back.

I do have it insured for stoooopid money. But it would probably never be enough.

I do think I am getting pretty close to the 50/50 point with the car though. 50% Ford Mustang/50% aftermarket and custom stuff.

The louvers look great! I'll be getting a spare of my hood vent as well. The first thing I want to do is hack out all the honeycomb parts on the grill to see what kind of improvement I see. I imagine it will help quite a bit.

I guess you decided that adding the "scoops" underneath wouldn't really net any benefit?

I feel you man. I'm no where near as custom as you but I was thinking about it the other day as I spent the 8th straight day working on my brake scoops project. It wouldn't necessarily be a money issue if I crashed, but more of a "I don't feel like doing another 3 months of fabricating" to repair the car.

You will probably see a bigger benefit by adding a wickerbill to the leading edge of the vent.

I'm sure that would help.

Were looking into doing some drop in louver/scoops for the GT500 hoods. I just hooked up with a local guy who does race car louver stuff that can handle production on something like this. Fiberglass or carbon. A production design would have a wicker-bill added and more aggressive louvers at a minimum. Early days for this project though.

Do you have access to a wind tunnel? If not you could put some strips of paper or cloth in the back and drive down the road while someone video taped it. Smoke would be better tho. You could have someone in the back with a smoke machine and force it thru the cooler and out the rear and video the results at diffrent speeds. I gues that would be a poor mans wind tunnel! :beerdrink:

I am really digging all of the custom fab work in this thread, BTW. Well thought-out, clean designs and execution.

Love that floor work Jason. And this thread is why I want to buy Alex's car!

Everyone wants to buy Alex's car! lol

Yeah, haha, get in line!

Cut out most of the trunk between the tailights, add some grill/expanded aluminum then a aluminum frame. It's obviously not easy, but the materials are minimal.

There is also an aluminum bulkhead between the trunk and the passenger compartment. The trunk is sealed up tight aside from where the NACA ducts feed in air.

It's not terribly complex on a theory level, but a LOT of work.

Here is what the trunk cooler looks like from inside the trunk. Note that it is sealed all the way around the cooler so all the air going through the NACA ducts is driven through the cooler.

This is the bulkhead separating the trunk from the drivers compartment. It’s good for safety, gave us somewhere to run the NACA tubes through and it also stiffens up the chassis like the BOSS302 X brace. In this picture it is not completed.

This is the rear overflow/degas tank with a 55gpm Meziere (one of two) built in. It’s tall and goofy looking because the rear cooler is the highest point in the system and the fill level needs to be slightly above that.

Total noob question, but why do you need fans/cooling in the trunk? I mean I get the bulkhead and the battery and all that, but the rest I'm at a total loss on.
