I wish I had your knowledge!

Is that what you call it? LOL

I got the short block together yesterday, but did not get the heads on. I decided to use my ARP head stud nuts to run the studs down, not a very good idea as two of them didn't want to come back off and I had to use my Dewalt cordless impact to remove them thus destroying the threads and had to order two new studs and nuts. I called ARP and have two coming 2nd day air so they will be here from California by Friday. I will get back at it next weekend.

I got to the bold part and went 'Oh no!".

I really hope you aren't leaving the studs bottomed out when you put the heads on are you? I believe my builder had me back them out a turn after I put them in.

Good luck and I hope it works out ALOT better this time.

No, I install them at 4 7/8" from the deck, which is about one turn out, so there are threads above the nuts when installed.

Anyone know where to get a 11mm 1.5 thread chaser? I need to clean up the two holes that I am replacing the studs on.

I ended up using a tap with a 1/4" extension on it and ran it down the hole.

With all the rain the last two days, I had time to finish the long block. I would have put it in the car today, but I took my headers to get recoated on Mon. and wont have them for another 2 1/2 weeks. They really looked like shit after the fueling issues last year and I wanted them to look as good as my JPC intake does now.

I also decided to help along the issue of heating and retouring the heads with the copper gaskets. I used a three step of 30, 60, 90 ft lb and the after heating took them to 100 ft lb. After the first real heat cycle I will loosen them one by one and re torque to 100 ft. lbs.

I put a piece of sheet metal over the top of the motor and used my heat gun to heat it up. I also put some towels on top and a heater from the bottom to retain the heat. I heated it for 1 hour and could not touch the heads or block with my hand.

Inside the cylinder temp though the spark plug hole.

5 min. later in the valley.

This is in the spark plug hole 15 min after I removed everything.

Cheap ass heat gun did not fair so well though. LOL
