Just something other than that beaded styrofoam - urethane foam or the like, that won’t crumble if handled or impacted. And thick-enough to fill-in the empty space. Use it to exclude debris, not just as bashplate-padding.

Okay I see, I’ll have to see what I can come up with and find. Good tip

Update.
Going to be taking the car out tomorrow to test it, currently it’s sitting on 18in rays wheels with worn out street tires. My plan is to make sure everything is dialed before ordering my wheel and tire package. Then testing it again. Today we’re going to
Be taking the truck around to scout some areas where I can bring it.

I’m going to be throwing a pre filter onto my air intake and I’m curious if there’s anything else I should be covering up or trying to protect from dirt and debris?

Finished up testing today. The car ran good. Suspension felt good. Only had one strange sound come up then go away lol. I drove it on a lake bed with bald street tires of course there was noooooo grip what so ever. So now is to find a setup with grip and a lot of sidewall that will fit

Whoa I haven’t been on this site in a minute. Got an update though!
Ordered some 16x7 wheels through summit. Everything measured out, the hub bore, bolt pattern, wheel stud size, ect.

But when they came in the lug nut holes were wayyyyy to small! Measured with my calipers and they were actually off compared to what the site said. Kinda annoying. Anyways they were sent back about 2 weeks ago.
Now I’m
Currently saying F it and trying to find a 17in wheel to fit 225/60/17 all terrain tires. I have about two options in this size but it’s more do able.

Should I be worried about the inner wheel barrel not going over the front GT calipers or is that only for 16in setups?

Hey guys! Big update!
Ran my first shake down event at Vegas Rally (where you can sign up to drive rally cars about an hour out of Las Vegas).

Car ran phenomenal! Other than the rear end sounding like it’s going to destroy itself I had no other issues. Car was fast, and I even jumped it twice (not even knowing I did until I saw videos/photos) and it felt very smooth and not like it bottomed out. I was running a pace close to a Miata rally car that someone else brought to shake down. He was running race gas too and had full gravel suspension. Here’s some photos. Also I’ll be posting up a video soon too, if anyone can help me ID what it sounds like the rear end is doing and what might be a proper fix would be great

About 20 years ago I did TSD road rally's with a guy I used to be good friend with. It was sooo much fun. I can imagine how much more fun this is. Looks like a blast.

Thanks guys for the support, it is tons of fun. And really challenging trying to go fast in dirt. Especially on normal road tires lol. This weekend I’m planning on inspecting everything on the rear end, also checking the drive shaft too. The rear end sounds terrrrrrible now just cruising around.
I’m planning on editing the videos too and should have them up on my YouTube. I’ll post a link when I do.

Other than fixing the rear end only other plans I have is to put some all terrains on. Everyone recommended to me a 225/65/17 will be my best bet. Since I gutted the doors and have no windows I would like to mount some plexiglass or something as sidewindows too. Maybe make a light bar because #Rallycar

Small update. Finally got a chance to get my hands on the car, mostly looked over the rear end. I extended the rear upper arm a bit since I raised the car, pinion should be at a better angle.

One thing I’ve been confused about though, where the I put a angle finder to measure?? On the flat part of the axle housing?? Here’s some pics where I’m pointing where to I think I should measure.

everything else in the car looks good, rear upper control arm bushing is basically gone to I ordered a new one. Hopefully get it all figured out, then some tires, and another test day

Here’s the pics, I’m pointing at where I think the angle finder goes on the pumpkin, am I right?

Looks like he hasn't visited here since December of '19.

This was a different and interesting build.

Yea, I was hoping he figured out how to raise the car correctly too. Thinking about making a Baja/pre-runner style s197 myself.
