Definitive answer needed on emissions and O/R H pipe

To me, "not supported" would clearly show a testing station they are not working. If you can pass like that in LA, more power to you. I sure wish we could in TX.

All they look at is that it passes the OBDII test and it does. It doesnt show the operator anything but pass or fail unless they print the report out,which they usually only do when it fails. I had him print it when it passed because I wanted to see what was different and the only thing was it went from not ready status to not supported. But either way it can be done in the tune and pass the OBDII test.

So, I am going to go O/R with the H and see what the heck happens. I will do the double stacked couplers and leave the O2s on. If it doesn't work, well....I will cross that bridge when I get there.

All it has to be is "Not supported" and that test is ignored. Look up the inspection criteria at the state DPS site. Only if it's "Not Ready" or in a failure mode can they reject it on the OBDII side of things. Now, if they visually look and don't find them, that's a different story.

im in Ny where we also have the obd scan..ive been researching for a while to figure out what im gonna do with this same situation...even with catted high flow x's and h's its the same problem not just o/r ones..basically anything that changes the stock cats it seems.. and for the ones saying turn the sensors off it cannot be done that way as they come up not ready...i have heard of tuners getting it to be not supported and that working but not sure who can do that or what the deal is with it yet...Mil eliminators are a hit or miss it seems and now are not being sold anywhere anymore i guess and the defoulers seem to be hit or miss..i have a 07 which seem to be more touchy than the 05-06 with this..

One more time, use the OBD scanner from Auto Zone before you go get tested and fail. At least in Texas, when you fail, you only have 30 days to fix it. If you use the Auto Zone scanner (which is free to borrow), you can make sure all of your emissions components are "READY" before you go in.

FYI, the Android app called Torque will also show you the status of the drive cycle. It's free, but you have to buy an OBDII adapter... mine was $25. Very cool app. There's also a pay version, which lets you measure 60 ft times, quarter mile ETs, etc.

Y'all are wrong about the tune. The state computer scanner machine will know your O2s and EVAP are not reading ready, and will fail you out. If you want to keep one pipe on all the time, the only solution is to use spark plug non-foulers on the rear O2s to pull the sensor out of the exhaust stream enough to make them think there are cats. You'll still get the EVAP showing not ready, but you can pass with one NOT READY flag.

Good how-to here: link. I believe our O2 sensors use 18mm threads.

Doug (KemahGT here) did the non-fouler thing and claims to have passed. He double stacked two on each rear O2, which involves drilling out one. Of course, you also need to find a clueless inspection shop that either won't visually inspect under your car, or won't know what a catalytic converter (or lack thereof) looks like. I swap pipes with a catted midpipe, but I think I'll try this next time around.

Also Kyle, utilize the free rental OBD scanners at Auto Zone. You can drive around with the scanner connected and see whether your various emissions components (O2s, catalyst, evap, etc) are reading READY. Very helpful, when you're driving the cycle and such.

thats weird, my CEL kept coming on (even with my catted mid pipe) so my tuner just turned my O2s off, and I've passed 2 years of OBDII inspections at 2 different chain garages? Should I ask him what he did to make it not show up?

No, he simply turned off the rear o2 sensors. They don't do 'OBDII emissions inspections' in Charlotte yet, IIRC.

There is a way to get the CEL to stay off and Pass Emissions here in Harris County, Your tuner will have to go into the tune and change a Few Settings under the ODBII settings. Non of my cars run cats and none have an issue with Passing Inspection in Harris County.
I took my Personal Car to DPS themselves for a YouTube Video of a 9 Second Street car passing Inspection. The Test for the rear O2's will say "Not Available and it is unquestionable, If it reports "Not Ready" they HAVE to fail it, "Not Available" it Passes.

I just go to a town where they don't do emmissions testing lol the smaller Texas towns don't do emmissions. I have friends in small towns I'll just go hang out with, it kinda gives me an excuse to go visit but I understand it's a PITA that way! Although I did pass with an offroad x in Houston when I used to live there because I had a friend who owned a shop and had a mustang like ours and I think he somehow used his car to pass mine. He got me my sticker and told me not to worry about it haha WIN

You have to pass inspection in an emissions testing county in order to register it an emissions testing county.

Just because you have a sticker, you are not in the clear. I acquired mine under the table for 2 years and thought I was in the clear. I got stopped for expired registration (I had forgot). They can check your inspection and registration status through the computers in each patrol car now just by running your plates. I got lucky that the inspection one was down that night, as I had a 'current' sticker and had it came up as not inspected in 2 years, I'd have been arrested and my car impounded. When I went to get the registration, I was told I could not as my car had not been inspected in over 2 years.

Also, when they hook you car up to the computer, it reads your VIN number on anything 05 and newer. So you cannot substitute another car as yours and pass. And it must pass that computer or the database will not say you are current. You better be VERY careful, you may have a sticker, but it's not a 'registered' sticker. If you get caught, you and your buddy are in big trouble.

Yeah, they don't let you drive around for years without passing.

I got VERY lucky I did. I found out the hard way that some cops will run plates while stuck in traffic or a light. That's how I got popped for my registration. It was night and he came up from behind, so he didn't even have to see my sticker to see I was not current.

Big Brother really sucks.
