i understand differences of preference but to blanket diamonds entire product over one bad experience to me is just absurd. i can see a bad batch with any manufacturer at any given time. as far is hone grit, thats pretty much common knowledge for any reputable performance machinist and the top coat on the pistons ,that mainly is for turbo applications to deal with the extra heat associated with cyl. temps so its not pointless unless you're not going turbo. diamond pistons in my engine also, non coated, no issues. looks like your new piston has a .275" top land which is standard on diamond mod pistons anyhow

Update!!

Here are pictures of the new hybrid VMP Gen II TVS!!! I call it hybrid as Steigy put their hands on it. lol

First here are pictures of the ROUSH case with the damage from the spark plug porcelain:

(damn it, came out blurry)

Now for the hybrid VMP GenII TVS...long nose (dual belt):

You can see the Venom Cooler mod:

Rotors look brand new!! BTW, just so everyone knows, you can not buy replacement rotors!! If your rotors get damaged beyond repair, you will need to buy a whole new blower.

Supposedly according to Steigy, this is a special coating that reduces heat. Its an upgraded coating compared to stock rotor coating.

DSC01146_zps0r7ummcs.jpg

Its also smoother than the stock coating.

I'm still waiting on the shortblock to be finished...

Not sure, got to call the engine shop. lol
I've been busy with school. Two more weeks and it's wrench time!!

How's your motor running?

Update:
Should have called the engine builder sooner...motor and parts have been sitting there since I dropped off the pistons 3 weeks ago... sigh
All they have to do is a bore and rehone and assembly...

So far so good on mine, got about 415 miles on it, hopefully get it to the track next week!

Sounds like my machine shop, my parts sit there for a month or so, then they actually work on them for one or two days and its done, I feel your pain!

You guys need to ship your parts to my machine shop. 1 week tops for machine work. More for short blocks or complete motors though.

Shipping fees sucks but waiting months to get your work done sucks more.
The problem is there's only one good shop around here that I trust, and they're way backed up. Of course they cater to the pro race teams more so than a hobbyist like me. Can't blame them. Otherwise the other shops may butcher up my shit!

Or mine....they tell me 3 days and call me in 2 to come get it.

Hopefully I won't need any machine work for awhile! If I do I'm about a 2.5 hour drive from Lakeland, maybe get with ya next time there's a need.

I agree. The shop I have my stuff, they also cater to the upper class...so average enthusiasts like me sort of get politely shoved aside. sigh

I rather wait to get a perfect job done...not saying your shops are not as good. But I'm OK with waiting for perfection. LOL I really don't trust anyone else either...
My guy builds elite stuff...shops use him only for their "special" builds. Everything else gets sent to the regular machine/engine shop. LOL

Its just two guys in an engine shop working through tons of backlog. And of course the race jobs get priority since they are on a schedule and have tons more money; plus not to mention the "relationship" with the race customers. lol

Gerald,

Man pick who you want to do your work.
If you have to wait then so be it.
At least you tried your best to get things done right.
Let me share a thought with you.
Keep in mind it's your Mustang and it's your money.
My opinion and anyone else's opinion is just that nothing but opinions.

Do it your way buddy. :thumb2:

Short block will be ready Friday!!!

My engine builder is already complaining on the coating of the MMR pistons. He said a little piece of the coating came off like tape. sigh

I told him to bead blast that crap off...he said no. LOL
I'm committed to coating. lol But he does not like it. sigh

So the moral of the coating story...only get the skirts coated!! Just like Manley offers it on their pistons. Although, Manley ensured me this MMR/Manley coating is good with no issues.

Ugh, I'd get different pistons. Did you buy them from MMR? Tell MMR that your machinist (they are careful people,) managed to peel some coating and you'd like something else.

JMHO.

I got the motor back home...boy does it look pretty with those red pistons... lol
I just want to keep it as a decorative piece... sigh

So I have a dilemma I am hoping you guys have some insight on...

The last setup made 680rwhp/605rwtq using 92 octane pump gas with 14-16 (peak) degrees timing with 14 (peak) PSI boost.

This build will include a new upgrade, the VMP TVS GenII case that is supposed to make an additional 50-60rwhp with no other changes. So I am hoping to break into the 700-720rwhp. But on pump gas (92 octane)...?

The motor wants to make power and my tuner is holding the motor back and with 14-16 degrees timing, I am figuring is conservative timing right? So the motor is not being "pushed" to make power.

I guess I can try finding a Phase 1 pulley which I think will make 12 PSI...Hmm, that could be an option. But I definitely won't make it into the 700rwhp range.

My engine builder is highly recommending I go with meth injection or commit to race fuel or E85 if I want to sustain the 680-720rwhp range.

What do you guys recommend?
E85 is out right now as there is only one sole station that carries it.
Running race fuel on a street car is a little silly due to the cost. I guess I could dump race fuel in it for the track days.
Meth, I am totally clueless about it. I have seen videos of it spraying and the quantity of fluid that it injects has me worried about trashing bearings in the blower; it would have to be installed between the throttle body and blower inlet.

I'm stuck and not sure what to do.

e-85 all the way, how far is it to get it? I'm 15 minutes from the only one around and has not been a issue yet. In the future I plan to get 2 30gallon drums to keep one full and one for filling as the other gets low. I would not trust 92 or 93 with that much HP.

How far would you go on 92?

I have the same problem. I only can use 93. We have 115 oct but it cost 20$ per gallon...
What is better to put bigger Pulley and less timing or smaller Pulley and higher timing
