I've been looking around lately, and have found a couple 98 Cobra's that I'm somewhat interested in. Just curious if any of you guys had, or still have a 96-98 Cobra. If so, any recommendations as to what the better parts for the 4 valve are? I've already read through countless threads on other forums and have come up with a little bit of info, but not much. Some things like short runners, IMRC delete's, etc. Also, if you have any sites to link me to to learn more about the 96-98 Cobra's then please post them up!

No short runner intake unless it is a race car!!!!!!

IMRC deletes, long tubes, good cold air kit, underdrive pulleys, bigger TB, GEARS (!!!), etc. Don't go apeshit with it and it can be a good driver.

Hey Justin, you should get in touch with Todd. He had a 96 Slobra for quite a while. Got rid of it after he got the 2nd S197.

Thanks man! That's pretty much what I got summed up so far. To go into more detail I'm thinking 4.30's in the rear, even though it will see limited, if not any track use...well...I lied already, it will see some track usage! Also, do you know more about the short runners I've been hearing/reading about? I value the opinions of guys here more than other forums, and would like you personal take on them if possible.

Anyone have any general idea of prices on a 98 Cobra? The two coupes I've found have 34k miles, and 75k miles. They "seem" to be in great condition with no paint chips, curb rash, etc.

BIG HELL NO!!! Those 2 mods on the 4 valves were tested as the worst and useless mods you can buy!!!

A 96-98 cobra bone stock has 315bhp so like 280ish to the wheels. They are the 5 speed t45 transmission with 3:27's gears. I big plus for these motors is that they were TEKSID blocks which can handle alot of abuse. The internals are stlll hypertec pistons though.

Good mods are: JLT intake(works great on 4valves), full exhaust, some 3:73's (because you have that extra 1k rpm's this will be a nice touch, what i did with my 01 cobra) MSD coil packs and wires are good basic mods. You should def tune it for these mods though!

Their is a lot out their for mods and some is horrible but a lot is good. A great car to modify and even being 10years old, it still can cause some havic.

a good forum you should check out is www.svtperformance.com Anything you wanna know about SVT's is on their. Def check it out

I would look around the 10k range for a nice one. Thats atleast in my area what i would pay.

When you get one i would look into replacing coil packs and just a fresh tune up really. I doubt i would get one that has been run hard. They are out there, just gotta dig one up.

Like my 94 cobra, it was used for a weekend racer and a moderate driver. The body was in decent shape, sadly it had been wrecked but that wasnt a biggy to me. I got 5k in the car itself and another 5k in misc. parts/new motor/ and i have a great 20MPG average fun driver that gets a lot of looks and sounds great.

As far as mods, go with what everyone else says except the 3:73's... I would go no less than 4:10's. My friend has 4:30's on his cammed 4v and that thing is a beast.

^ see i had 4:10's in my 01 and i didn't like it compared to the 3:73's, I actually ran better with them at the track.

One thing a lot cobra owners don't do is the plugs like to fall into the piston well. It was a problem with 99 and up but some 96-98 cobra did it too. Just gotta make sure the plugs stay tight with more checking which in return isn't a bad thing.

Yea. He went from 373's to 430's and i had to claw my way out of the backseat after riding in it for the first time. His car dyno'd like 20-30 something more than both of my cars but what a difference it made. Gears in the GT are stock, and my 94 has 3:73s.

Ha! If I do pick up a Cobra, I'm for sure sticking with some 4.30's! I've read quite a bit on them, and it seems like the best fit for N/A!

I really want to sit my car out for a while, and just let it chill. I've racked up quite a bit of mileage, and Its breaking my balls. I really wanted an 05-07 used V6, but have leaned more toward a 98 Cobra! Prices aren't that bad, plus they are still quick as hell, light as hell, and get decent mileage.

Hope everything goes well with your car at HPP! They'll wake that beast of yours up for sure!
