how would you breakin a new ShrtBlock

I have a build 3v short block fully forged stg2 ported heads and comp spr cams 127550 with a votech V3 ..would you put it in and drive easy for 500 miles or so ..or warm it up drop the oil ..put new oil and dyno it !!!!

Everyone has opinoins on how to do it, heres the common way.

The most important part is to make sure everthings coated with oil prior to start up.

Fill with some conventional oil. Pressurize the oil or pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the car a couple times to get oil everywhere. Start it up let it get up to full temp drive it easy and give it some healthly revs. Change the oil/filter to the good stuff of your choice.
Let her rip on the dyno.

i was told to start it let it idle 10 minutes then run it 1000 mikes with a high zinc oil. vr1. then its broke in.........but after 1700 miles and a brenspeed tune my jdm shortblock has a hole in the piston so maybe you should not follow my lead...

You only have one chance to break it in. Like lightspeed said there are different ideas about it.

I can tell you how I did mine. Start up and vary rpms for the first 20 minutes, drove for about 10 minutes and changed the oil. Drove for another 350 miles progressively putting more load on it. Put it on the dyno at 350 miles and I believe that was the best thing to do. The catch can suddenly had less blow by after that tuning session. I believe the dyno pretty much finished the break in. I still ran conventional oil for about the first 1100 miles.

If I build another motor it's going to the dyno right away to be broken in.

Asking the right way to break in an engine is just like asking what the right way to choke your chicken is... Everyone does it differently.

And really, there isn't one answer. It depends on what rings you have and what oil is in it, and a few other things.

brenspeed told me heat cycles are the main thing not so much milage. I did about 20 heat cycles and about 400 miles then on to the dyno.

I would use regular dino oil until the rings are seated.

My engine was primed, started, pulled onto the dyno and did about 15 n/a dyno pulls to see what it would do (316/353) then the blower went on and dyno tuning commenced with the Procharger. Oil was changed then and then at the end of the season. Been running strong since. I switched from dyno to synthetic oil at that point as well.

Like SD politely suggested. Use the search. There are a lot of info on here about engine break in.
