He's not Chinese. He's from Thailand unless I'm mistaken. Huy Thei Tang. Damn nice guy too. Told me the first time he saw a Mustang was in Vietnam when he was a little kid. A bright red '65 coupe with a 289 and a four speed.

He's not in charge of Mustang any more...

The Mustang II was a smashing sales success for Ford in 1974 - It stopped the downward slide of Mustang sales and brought many people into "Mustang". If it weren't for the "II", there might not be a Mustang today.

There were 3 times as many 1974 Mustang II produced as there were 1993 Mustangs.

I'm not making this up - check out the production numbers...

Production YearNumbers
1964 1/2 121,538
1965 559,451
1966 607,568
1967 472,121
1968 317,404
1969 299,824
1970 190,727
1971 149,678
1972 125,093
1973 134,267
1974 385,993
1975 188,575
1976 187,567
1977 153,173
1978 192,410
1979 369,936
1980 271,322
1981 182,552
1982 130,418
1983 120,873
1984 141,480
1985 156,514
1986 224,410
1987 159,145
1988 211,225
1989 209,769
1990 128,189
1991 98,737
1992 79,096
1993 114,228
1994 123,198
1995 165,037
1996 126,483
1997 100,254
1998 170,642
1999 126,067
2000 218,525
2002 143,518
2003 128,101

And, no I don't LIKE the "II", but those are the facts. It's quite possible, that by the time the 2015 Mustang debuts on April 17, 2014, it'll be very different from the Mustang of 2010.

The times they be a changin'...

someone left the model too close to the fireplace and parts of it melted?
Seems that the way mustangs go, the first "new" one out of any style is pretty good, then they let the "B" team muck with it on the small changes year-to-year...

I love the 65, 85, 2005

I guess the 85 is at the end of an era (that started awkward in 79) huh? Oh well, so much for that theory...

The 2005 didn't take it's styling from the 65, it took its styling mostly from 69. The 2010 took some from 69 and some from their imagination. The nose and tail of 2010 do not resemble any previous mustang that I can think of.
+1... I fell in love with the 2005 becuase of my previous love of the 69 Mach 1.

The 2010 looks like an SN-95 version in the front, and some Euro weenie-mobile in the rear.

And, no....the Mustang II will not be making a styling return. The chief designer of the Mustang division absolutely HATES those year models. He's also not a big fan of the Fox bodies either.
I would rather build a racecar out of a Mustang II than I would one of those fugly fox bodies.

There's a badass Mustang II that races here. Diamond plate rear seat delete, and diamond plate dashboard. I'll try to get pics when the track opens up again.

I hated the Pinto IIs, but I love that car.
