Yes the motor absolutely has to come out. I don't know what labor rate would be through a shop (a lot), but I personally would charge about $1200 to do the work on the side, not including parts. The work is really not much different than a 3v.
Timewise, the only differing part of this motor over a 3V, is to get the head bolts out/in, you have to remove the camshafts. A 3V you just work around them.
So, if I'm reading this right, you can reinforce the motor for somewhere around $2000-$2500 (Parts and labor, with arguably a good deal for the labor), then boost away without fret? Sounds like a wise expenditure before adding the SC . . .
Now, if only you lived somewhere closer to the East coast.
Interesting, I wonder if his tunes accomidated the LT headers. Because that will throw everything out of whack if he didn't tell Brenspeed/Steeda about the Long Tubes.
who is to say the steeda tune didnt cause the problem?yes this is the 4th brenspeed tune ive seen go. i had a link to all of them in a differetn thread ill have to try to find it on another forum
Really? I thought you had to make some adjustments because of the upstream O2's being further down the pipe. At least I remember that being true on the older cars. You don't have to change anything in the tune when adding long tube headers on these cars.

Yea, its not like we wouldnt buy the damn car if it was $1000.00 more ! I know they want to keep cost down but, that is all the mustang has ever lacked over the others is a solid power plant from the factory. We have been trying to keep up with bigger more powerful engines for years .I agree. I've rebuilt a 5.0 using the Boss parts, and I've got a brand new Boss shortblock here (that's going in the classifieds soon) that's a nice piece of work. I think Ford should have gone that route in all of them.
LOL, guess what else i found.

Could it be coincidence? Some 5.0's have been having oil consumption problems, do you think this could be a catalyst to the dreaded #8?
No, i'm just not the one(red candy 5.0) that has been extensively beating this issue down everytime i read about it on another messagebaord then post about it on the other boards. I did a little digging about the guy in the newest #8 thread and apparently he's installed a TR6060 in the car. Then when i dug a little deeper and beyond him commenting on how nice cars are, and his TR6060 swap he posted a video of him beating the car while street racing. So i can gather(my opinion) that the person who blew the engine really has no regard for the car in the first place, and/or has a lot of money and does not care if he or she breaks something. I just want to know how these cars were being driven prior to failing, and no one is really coming out and stating what happened prior. I don't see this issue cropping up on a mustang that has a tune and the owner uses it for a grocery getter while driving it "spirited" as some call it.
FYI: The car in question in this thread on the #8 is kona blue.

What are some companies people would suggest to get a block from? BBR, MMR, livernois, etc? Just curious, might just get that done while putting the blower one.
A Brenspeed race tune will get you through the traps at over 114 mph. It just might not get you home lol.
GUYS, that's my 2012... I was just linked here from the mustang source were I posted.
2012 Mustang 5.0 6M
About 8,000 Miles
LT headers, full exhaust,CAI and Tune...
I was driving 35-40 MPH when this happened. There was no "spirited driving" going on. I've only read 1 page on this thread... will answer questions I can in a second...
Thanks
Please link me to a video I posted "beating" on the car? I posted a video racing a yellow Mustang Steeda. I don't think that's beating on the car. Who hasn't raced someone with their car?
Yes, they know about the LT's.
