What is the width of the exhaust valve clearance? and your depth is .075 from the top of the piston? What is the typical dimension for a 3v piston?

It looks like there will be just a little more clearance with the bigger pan.

I didn't measure it. The build specs list a .075" relief. Here's a few pics. One is of the Diamond piston and the other is of a Mahle flat top that's in my other motor.

Diamond lists their relief as -.06cc or -.6cc depending on what you look at. I think that .6cc is the correct volume of the relief. Mahle lists theirs at -1cc.

Theoretically with stock deck height it's impossible to have piston to valve contact with less than .5" of lift.

Bruce,
If you don't want to use that pan and windage tray then I'll take it off your hands.

Is that pan cast aluminium?

If so, be careful of running any hard objects over, they can crack vs dent, and drop all your oil. Cost me a motor on a VW 12 years ago. Thanks to the wife.

Yes it is cast aluminum.

I'm going to ask, what does HAM mean?

FYI the windage tray is considerably lighter than the stock one. I have no idea what the scrapers contribute to power but maybe something good will come from them. The tray is $66 and the whole package with pan, pickup tube, windage tray/gasket, bolts, and oring for the pickup was $176 from Tousley. Now it's gone down to $168. I haven't checked our new sponsor Tasca Ford but I would think that they are competitively priced.

Aren't the scapers also supposed to reduce oil whip by "scaping" oil off the rotating assembley and thereby eliminating froth in your oil and parasitic loss?

It's done. Motor is built. Now I just have to decide if I want to wait until the weekend or get it in after work. Sometimes they drop right in and other times it can take awhile. Once I start it has to be finished to the point of being bolted in. That could be 30 minutes or 3 hours.

Beginning goal is 400/400 on 92 pump gas and stock like driveability. The goal for E85 is 420/420.

I've done just about all the work I can in preparation for this project. The only thing left is waiting a few more days. Sounds easy but I've already been waiting two weeks longer than I had thought it would be. All I can do is talk about it.

What is your goal as far as numbers wise?
