Rebuild is $800 total, porting is not necessary but was allowed for in the budget so I did it. So the engine total was $1050.00. And harness was because I have shoulder surgery in 2 weeks and I would not have time to rewire the harness the way we discussed.
And then I’m getting more power of a Gen3 in a gen 1 setup.
I could have just dropped in the motor with just rings abs bearings and would have been running already but now I have a better than new engine with 1000hp potential.
It is an exercise to show the new kids you don’t need to drop $10k for power.
I sold the stock parts and my 3v so I also have not accounted that into the full total yet.

Does the harness also allow cruise control?
Uhhhhhhhhhh.....maybe? LOL I actually do not know for sure. I'm about 98% sure it does. I actually didn't even worry about that one because I never finished rewiring the buttons after I installed the GT350 steering wheel and control buttons.

My interest would be a dead-nuts reliable daily driver with everything functioning, that could do an occasional track day. The coyote-powered S197s are holding their value a little too well and the 3V cars are very good bargains right now. Not opposed to an LS swap either, but that's even more of a hassle to get all the gauges and whatnot working.

Using a gen 1 pcm, everything will work in an 05-09. Built right, its reliable.
And please build a Camaro if you want LS power.

The g5 Zeta platform is quite good, but it's nearly 4000lbs and has a number of ergonomic problems that make me not so interested, though the Z28 did get Motor Trend's Driver's Car. I'm not religious at all about cars; I'm interested in what's best for me. Besides, Ford ruined any mystique the "Mustang brand" had when they threw the Mustang name on an SUV. I prefer not to drink the cool aid.

Then why are you on a Mustang board "drinking the cool aid" and mucking up my thread?
MODS can we ban this douchebag?

I've had about a dozen foxbodies, one of which I think I bought from you (red caged road race coupe), an sn95 too. Drove a bone stock S197 in an autocross once and it's clearly a superior platform to the earlier cars. What you're doing in this thread is very near to what I'm considering, should I pull the trigger on a S197.

On edit: Also did a track day at Ford Racing School in one of their track-prepped S550s. While a very good handling car, especially considering it's size and weight, the S550 has never done much for me. I prefer the S197 platform.

I know who you are that is why I'm giving you grief. And also why I'm swapping a 08 vs buying a Coyote. The #300-500 weight advantage.
Do you still live on Kenilworth? Come take a look. Hell you can help! Im getting shoulder surgery next week and will be one arm down in the middle of this mess

Lots has changed for me since then. Been out of cars for ~10 years now, been career focused. Bought a place in The Hill (Jefferson and Bluebonnet) a little over a year ago. In the middle of a 3000sf rehab or I absolutely would come volunteer some labor.

Back to your thread though - I simply don't have the time to take on a substantial project, but what you're doing reusing a lot of factory parts and buying a few key components to save on labor is quite smart, even if you're blowing you initial budget by a little.

actually I'm way under budget I realized. I didn't intend to buy a harness but the cost vs labor was well worth it. Like the porting. We are lucky to have a great shop here and it made it really worth the cost.
The actual swap is going quite fast and If I was not rebuilding the motor with the mods I would already be done. I could have just used a running motor or one that was known to be good and she would be rolling.
I have a spare Gen 1 here in the garage just sitting if you want it. email me. meauxcg at aol dot com

Would this swap work on a V6, or is it better to start with a GT?

It's better to start with a GT as you'd have to upgrade a lot more components on a V6. However you could find a wrecked but complete '11-'14 GT and transfer everything into a clean '05-'09 V6 chassis.

With a v6 you need to swap diff, but you may not have ABS to deal with, making the electrical work a little easier.
Its a coin toss IMO. There is less than 50lbs difference between the coyote and the 4.0. so the suspension can be left alone till you decide on what you want for springs/shocks.

So far with the PBH and a 11-13 tranny harness everything connects right in. I've pulled the column wiring and the big EEC engine bay connector from a wrecked v6 to use the factory leads and they look the same.
Suspension is basically the same except for the rear end.
And the ABS works with the PBH harness.

So as of today everything is bolted in, complete build and about to be fired up.. So it is still $5000.00 to drop in a coyote or less depending on how you shop. No where near the $10-15k SOME people like to quote over and over. I did spend more on head porting and cams but that was a choice based on availability of funds, frugal shopping, money from selling previous parts. And you can actually do it for a bit less if you want. A few things that are in play. Programming of the keys, flashing ECM, tweaking the exhaust to quiet perfection, a few fuel system upgrades and then she shall roar!

No not really.. V6 chassis is quite competent for daily driving and can be upgraded gradually IF and WHEN you want. Brakes are quite good for daily driving, suspension is more than acceptable for daily commuting, are you after absolute performance? Or a budget performer which is what the Mustang WAS and IS truly about. It IS NOT EXPENSIVE to mod a Mustang or go Coyote. That is a BS MYTH from uninformed individuals.
