Glad to see your back with the Rotrex! I still love mine!
Is this the heat exchanger you are talking about? Kinda pricey at $799. Do you think this is the best model on the market?
Yes that is the one best one out there. It is pricey, but worth it.

This is by far the best radiator/hx set up on the market. The are made by C&R. The company that makes NASCAR, INDY CAR, sprit car, etc. radiators. I know the people who designed and developed it with C&R. They are road racer's with GT-500's that needed a solution. Ford has even talked to them about their design and considered buying them, but decided to make their own after studying that design. They are significantly better than the Afco parts. Get both the radiator and the intercooler. You will not be disappointed. Anybody with a GT-500 of a FI engine must have this. Even if you just drive on the street(who would do that??), you get heat soak and lose power. This does the best job of mitigating heat soak. I have many track miles on my car and can personally endorse it.

I loved my Rotrex setup on the road course (and in general as well). It felt like a big cube n/a motor. In fact, I liked it so much, I recently sold my Procharger and went back the Rotrex. However, just like most of the others, heat soak was an issue. A big Shelby heat exhanger/fan setup would take care of that though.

A twin Rotrex setup would be sick.

Is this the setup you had?

That looks like it would be a good option.

Yes it is what I used to have, and now have again. I now have the new C92 head unit which has a 91mm compressor wheel, and 3.5" inlet housing. Because of the new bigger housing, their inlet tubing didn't fit, so I had to custom make my own.

I can also hook you up on pricing, as I'm good friends with Mountain Performance.

You have any pics of the new setup with you fab'd tubing? The tubing that comes with it seems restrictive to begin with.

Any dyno numbers with the old or new setup? How was heat soak, as minimal as claimed?

Yeah I never liked the old inlet tubing design. With the old setup I made 520/500 at the wheels with the C81 head unit. I'm not going to lie, heat soak was an issue at the track. Not as bad as my '03 Cobras in the past, but it was still there. The upgraded Shelby heat exchanger would completely eliminate any/all issues with heat soak. On the street it was a non-issue anyway. My IAT's were always within 5-15 degrees above ambient on the street.

Here is my current setup. It's a draw-through system, so the bypass has to be routed back into the intake after the MAF. No numbers yet as I just got it going on Saturday:

Would the head unit you have now with the biggest pulley be too much for a stock block? what boost/pulley size are you running now?

Can it be bought with the upgraded heat exchanger and head unit to begin with?

Thanks for the help. Keep us posted on saturday's results.

It's certainly capable of breaking a stock shortblock with ease at the right power level. Honestly I'm unsure of the pulley size, and because I literally just got it going 2 days ago I still don't know what boost I'm seeing as I'm just on a startup tune for now. I'm at high altitude anyway, so whatever boost I see up here won't be the same as anyone near sea level. This head unit should be capable of over 15lbs, and over 600rwh.

You can get the kit with whatever head unit you want (pricing changes), and you can just delete the heat exchanger from the kit (reducing price), so you can get whichever one you prefer separately. I got my kit without the heat exchanger because I picked up a 2011 exchanger cheap.

19COBRA93,

Looking at that picture I have a few questions.
Did you use the green belt because of or to prevent belt slip? I have the black one on mine without a boost gauge so I'm not sure if that is a problem.
You did what I have been thinking about doing, which is move the air filter from the standard area back to the master cylinder area or because I have a cowl hood was wanting to move the air cleaner on top of the engine with a larger size filter.
What kind of problems did you have moving the the air inlet.
Is that the power steering reservoir that I see where the air filter used to be?

Nice work!

Here is what it the air intake looks like now. Pardon the dust...

The green belt is simply Gates HD belt which is included with the kit. I've never experienced any belt slip or belt issues at all with these kits with any belt. With the last kit I ran several different pulley sizes with a couple different belt sizes/brands, never with an issue.

I had to build the intake piping that way because this new head unit has a 3.5" inlet and the piping setup you have (which is 3") wouldn't fit this head unit. I never liked that old style filter/piping setup anyway. The way I have it now allows for a bigger filter, and bigger piping (currently 4" then reduced to 3.5" at the blower inlet).

This new head unit I'm running is brand new, and FAP doesn't have a filter/piping setup for it. So if anyone orders this kit with the C92 head unit, you'll have to build your own inlet piping like I did. Which really isn't a big deal.

As for problems moving the filter, it would need to be re-tuned if you changed the pipe diameter. Otherwise it may be okay. Aside from that, there shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, that's the PS reservoir. Without the filter there it freed up a lot of space for it.

Anyone running Meth?

That outta help a bunch with the IAT's.

Being as Meth at 25%+ is flammable, it's not legal on most race tracks.

I think you can use less efficient stuff, and Snow performance even sells a conversion kit to use your windshield tank and fluid.

Would love to know if anyone's used this on a Road course.

meth is flammable, but so is gasoline...

I'm not privy to tracks rules regarding that, good to know. You think that'll matter for HPDE?

Typical snow kits use 50%, but the amount can be adjusted.

^gasoline is in a fuel tank/cell... meth is typically in a plastic container...
