Coming from the GM world, that looks normal. See it all the time. GM Ls7 motors grenade like that all the time. Valve drops, bounces around motor, rods start exiting block. Scary stuff.

87 fuel was used? exactly where did the tune come from? was it a canned tune in the diablo, or was it from somebody that told him it was usable?

You can get away driving with a startup tune. But you can't get away with driving with a canned NA tune for 87oct and then going under boost. I drove my car for weeks with a blower untuned but I had the timing locked at 10 degrees, an afr gauge, and never floored it.

I'm amazed at the amount of people who race their cars untuned without even checking the air fuel. There has been a few times I've asked someone what their car put down after they swapped to a new turbo, ported blower, or other major modification, and they don't know because they haven't had it retuned yet. Then they blow their engine up and start bad mouthing modmotors or aftermarket companies.

I haven't been able to get a hold of him since the weekend, but I think he had 87 octane fuel with a tune from Diablosport, could be on3 though if they provide tunes? He told Diablosport or whoever it was, what he had, and they supposedly sent him 3 tunes, one for each fuel octane. I told him there is no more 87 or 89 with FI but the idiot on the phone from Diablo told him it was okay so he must have believed him and not me, I'm not the "professional" ya know! Anyway the rest is history. He told me what happened so I stopped by his house on Sunday am and holy shit man, I never saw anything like that in my life! People say "I blew my motor" and they may have bent a rod or dropped a valve or something but never have a saw anything like this! All 8 pistons disintegrated simultaneously. He said he wasn't in it real hard, just started to spool a bit around 4k then gave it a little more throttle and game over. I figure it must have detonated like a mother, and the pistons just shattered.

Ignoring a friend with your mods and tuned by Lito was a massive fail. Taking a tune from a dude at diablo and assuming its safe was fail, not having a wideband was fail.

Tell him to get a new motor, and point him towards Lito, assuming he learns his lesson

atleast we see how it did so much, 4k rpm + sudden wot without tune will do it....
