If the power steering pump is flush on the shaft it is possibly out of alignment.
What is the best way to align the pulleys.
Damn...that sucks. Could have bought a 10 rib conversion for that kind of coin.
Hell,i blew through 20 belts, bent at least 10 tensioners, had my hood repaired twice from belts hitting the underside & popping the paint off on the top side, then on the 3rd hood damage i replaced the hood with a new one & installed a alum sheild on underside, installed the thump tensioner re clocked 30% greater for tension,no problems anymore, made 300+passes.
Cost for all this info pricele$$. www.mounceracing.com
Haha, you got me on time spent for sure but I'm probably close to you on money. I was on my 3rd front cover, 13 idler pullies (Found the cheap Ford ones would break before front cover), atleast 15 belts, and 7 stock tensioners.
I did find that the Thump_rrr tensioner was by far the best improvement to my car. I would only snap a belt on rare occasions and after the automatic I had 0 problems with all of it. Ron did teach me alot about what was going on by reading his post though. It helped me tremendously by all his R&D.
I would love to have a whipple independent belt drive but I just can't justify the cost
born to run,
I checked out your site. Nice setup on the car. I know it says stock 281 but im assuming you have the bottom end built. If not those are some good times you are running on stock bottom end horsepower limitations.
Thanks for looking at my website.I am still using the original stock long block that came with the car new from Ford. The car & has 1200+ passes on her.
Excellent numbers. It gives me hope i can turn this thing up a little bit on the stock bottom end and still be ok.
+1 on their customer service. I never have a problem spending top dollar as long as their quality and customer service is top notch. I assure you that their piece is worth the extra moneyAfter dealing with Peter from Thump RRR, I would highly recommend them and know that they will back you if anything would happen which I don't think anyone has had one fail yet.
I run a 12 lb pulley, with 20 & 25 degrees of timing (locked), 11.5-1 AFR,always run 103-109 unleaded fuel,i melt 20+ lbs of ice per pass in my intercooler tank,& i launch at 3000 rpm & shift @ 6000 rpm.Don't over rev the stock long block & don't bounce off or hit the rev limiter & you will be fine.Good Luck.
I will be in NJ for the NMRA event at Atco, are you going?
I have you beat by about $2500. Doh!Thats a fact, well over 1000. No one spent more time and money on the issue than I have.

I have you beat by about $2500. Doh!
I designed and made my own 10 rib kit tho. I think I'm on gen. 5 now.
I feel like the guy on the right.![]()
